Asus P67 Bluetooth issues

So, I tested out my bluetooth headset using the built-in bluetooth on my Asus P67 Deluxe Motherboard and I was getting fine reception for about 1-2 feet from the computer...as soon as I would stand up or take a step away, nothing but static.

Is anyone having any luck getting clear reception using the built-in bluetooth on the motherboard?

Is there anything I can do to make things better?

I am NOT USING BT-GO software...would that make any difference?

Could it be my case or something else causing the weak signal/static?...or is the built-in bluetooth just garbage?

Thanks!

From what I've seen it's just not very good. My Bluetooth keyboard refuses to stay connected using the Asus Bluetooth. I switched to a USB dongle borrowed from my other PC and I haven't had an issue yet. But I have tested it too much either.

I tried updating the drivers and that didn't help at all, kind of a bummer since that was one of the selling points of the board for me.

My guess: No Bluetooth or any other RF device that has its antenna inside the case is going to work any good. Why? The case is grounded metal, and will act as a shield, blocking most of the signal. And even if the antenna is just out the back of the case, it is still trying to transmit or receive through the case, as the keyboard etc. is in front, and probably above, the case.

The ones "built in" to Asus motherboards is like a mini USB dongle that is permanently glued in.

My guess is that the Asus boards have a "Class 3" BT device, meaning an operational range of 1m with 1mW output. The typical USB dongles you can get for a few bucks are Class 2, with a 10m range and 2.5mW output. Class 1 is more rare but also available with 100m range and 10mW output.

Note that this "range" is all theoretical just like with cordless phones and WiFi. RL range will almost always be less. I think that the range is extrapolated based on power output but is always theoretical and of course the smaller the dongle (and the Asus dongle is really tiny) the smaller the antenna and thus lower range. Additionally,k the power output of the different "classes" is not a fixed number but just the maximum, so you can have a 5mW output device that is classified as Class 3 because it is too powerful to be Class 2. Finally, the overall range is limited by the weakest device, so a Class 3 device coupled with a Class 1 device would have the shorter range of the Class 3 device.

Yes, but I'm guessing that even a Class 2 device on the motherboard wouldn't work very well, and would have a very poor range.

I can see all of my BT devices but I can't get any to work with my MB. I specifically bought the Deluxe bc it supported BT. I will probably forgo BT when I get rid of this MB.
