The USB 3.0 plug is reverse compatible but the 3.0 has extra contacts for power. So if you connect your old style front panel USB ports to your 3.0 mb connections you'll probably have full speed throughput but you won't have the extra power for rapid charging true USB 3.0 devices.

Quick question for you boglwe - how does the motherboard line up with the cutout on the back of the motherboard, i.e., how easy will backplate installation be. I've heard that some others had trouble with the cutout and P6T motherboards so I', just wondering if this board lines up better. Thanks again for your time.

The connections on the board are certainly different for USB 2.0 and 3.0.

Ah, I completely read your question wrong sorry. I haven't had much sleep these last few days.

I haven't looked at exactly how USB 3.0 is implemented on the board, but from what I do remember reading there are only a few ports on the back that are 3.0 compliant. There are no pin-outs for front USB ports on a case to plug into, etc. At least I don't remember them being there. I could be wrong though, I've had my hands full trying to get one of my Ubuntu servers up and going so I haven't paid a whole lot of attention to my new rig after I plugged it in.

The cutout on the HAF 932 didn't match up with the P6X58D unfortunately. I was bummed at first, but figured I don't plan on pulling the board much anyhow.

My question isn't about the board (might be going for it, check out my thread) but about ASUS service. How are they? I know for a fact that EVGA rocks, and I've heard some bad stuff about GIGABYTE, but what about ASUS? How are they? Do they help you out with your problems, replace your stuff under warranty no questions asked and even wash your feet for you like EVGA does, or do you have to work a bit to get them going?

What batch is your 920???
ie: 3944b445

aamsel,

I don't mean to hijack your question, but is there a tool that will get the serial # (batch) from your CPU? I'm curious which batch I got but don't feel like pulling the HSF/grease, etc.

I should have thought about it earlier.

No such thing exists.
You have to get the numbers off the chip
or the label of a retail boxed chip.

CPU-Z will report the stepping, and some INTEL utility will
tell you even more, but no way to pull the full batch numbers.

THe Back Plate area of this MB does NOT LINE UP with the motherboard tray on the HAF, but it is close. I was able to install a backplate for the H50 buy unscrewing a few motherboard screws and slightly pushing on it from the back while then droping the back plate in position with a little force, took about 5 minutes in all.

I have some new gear, BUT, my scores are as follows: http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4031/4207534772_aa201c1f49_o.png

That score is with all my junk on comp turned on with a co-op 295 GTX running one monitor and an 8800 running the other 2. Still, you get the idea me thinks.

I do love this board though, it has handled everything I have thrown at it. My only gripe, but one that is with many great boards, they simply do not give enough on board USB headers.

aamsel,

Thanks for this info. I figured this was the answer after the whole Pentium III serial number debacle.

How did you guys solve the issue with the LGA 1366 bracket for the Corsair Hydro H50 fitting on this MB? I am building my new system and have the H50 already, but it appears the capacitors are too close to the socket so the bracket for the cpu block/pump cannot be attached. Obviously there is a solution, since at least 2 people in this thread are using the H50 with the P6X58D. Thank you for your input.

Your system is very similar to the one I am getting ready to have built.
I am using the Antec P183 as the case will sit on my desk. I didn't notice a cooler for the 930.

Thoughts: Cool, Quiet, Clean, GOOD Monitor as some eye problems MidTower as it will sit on Desk.
Antec P183
ANTEC CP-850
Intel Core I7 920 D0 or I7 930
ASUS P6X58D Premium
Kingston HyperX DDR3-1600 KHX1600C9D3K6/12GB
Intel® X25-M G2 160GB & WD Caviar Black 1TB
Or Kingston SNV425-S2BD/128GB
Sapphire 5850(Vapor-X)
Scythe Gentle Typhoons if needed
Samsung SH-D163A DVD Writer

So the back plate does not match up on the haf 932. I was thinking of this board or P6T6 WS Revolution. Is this a better board than that one or not.

Got a quick question for you guys. I plan on getting the P6X58D soon along with an i7-930. The ASUS site says that CPU is supported since the 0402 BIOS. What if I get a board with the initial release BIOS of 0301? Can the BIOS be flashed before putting in the CPU and other hardware?

@ KamiXkaze ... what memory are you getting? I am pretty pleased with mine. Def not the cheapest, but def not the most expensive either.

I have to say, that OC-ing the memory in my system is "meh"! Meaning that I do not know that less expensive would allow an equal CPU OC ... I don't know.

I had seen 12 GB of this RAM reviewed else where via a video and I needed 12 GB more so than OC possibilities.

That would be a very old board inventory-wise. I just picked up a 2nd one of these, this time from Microcenter with a discount and it had 0703, 2/24/10.

Hey people. New to the forum.
If there's an intro thread,forgive me,I didn't see it.

Been outta the loop for 4 yrs.I used to build upward of 8-10 machines a year.
Decided to get back into it and saw this thread right away.

This is the board I decided to go with,so I'll be watching this thread closely.
Oddly enough, the 932 case is the one I selected also.

Still deciding whether to go with an i7-920,i7-930 or go to a higher model that's unlocked.

I will be interested to see how the WD 6GB drive works for you on the Marvell Controller.

I have 2 questions:

1) any way of telling which BIOS the motherboard ships with by looking at the board itself or packaging?...is it written anywhere?

2) what's the latest revision of the board?...how many revisions have there been so far?
