ASUS P8P67 Deluxe RAM/BIOS/System Freezes

I have a new i5-2500K build Win7 64-bit with the ASUS P8P67 Deluxe, dual-boot with XP, system that is experiencing random freezes. I think it may be the RAM - G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8 GB (2x 4GB) SDRAM DDR3 1600 F3-12800 CLD-8GBXL (Cas 9, Timing, 9-9-9-24). What adjustments should I make in the BIOS (v.1003), if any, to resolve this?
Also, should I update the BIOS to resolve the double POST issue at cold boot? I have read that updating the BIOS after the OS is installed should be avoided. Thanks, any help would be greatly appreciated!

I had quite a few issues with mine and ram. What kind of settings for the ram do you have set? Is it on auto voltage, mem speed and the rest or did you manually hard set it?

Yes, it's on auto. The ASUS forum advised me to flash the BIOS to v.1305 (from v.1003), which I did. I got a scare though; on first re-boot I got a "no OS detected" message - but when I rebooted again, it was fine. I was also told to increase the RAM voltage to 1.58v. Where in the BIOS do I do this? Thanks.

Under the advanced options, when you boot into the bios it first is in EZ Mode, you have to go to exit and go to advanced bios options. Once in there I think it's on the 2nd tab near the bottom.

Under "Ai Overclock Tuner" change from Auto to X.M.P. and you're done.

I read in other forums to stay away from XMP; and instead use Manual or Auto? Was that incorrect advice? Thanks for the input!

That is definitely incorrect advice. XMP will load the default timings for your memory and assuming no other hardware problems, this will solve your freezing problems.

Set it for XMP and make sure the voltage is back down to stock 1.5v.

Thanks! One more question, should I have flashed the BIOS to v.1305? I was given a scare, but my system seems to be running OK now.

I personally always like to update the drivers and bios for my hardware. Some people advise against it and say if it aint broke....

There is always a risk of bricking hardware when flashing a bios. Since you did it already, no problem. When you flash the bios it will return to stock settings so you probably messed up the boot order and thats why it couldnt find the hardrive to boot from at first.

Freezing is a popular issue on the P8P67 motherboards. I am getting the same freezes, when everything stops to death and only restart helps. I am not sure if I fixed the issue, but after updating the USB drivers I haven't gotten any freezes for the past 3 days.

Thats excactly the answer. I had same issues almost same setup except mine is vanilla p8p67. Doing the above fixed all my glitches.
