Asus P8Z68-V LX - RAM Speed Wrong?

Hi Folks,

This was my first build in 6 years, finally retiring the AMD 939. I am using 2x4 Corsair Vengeance 1600, but in the ASUS bios it comes up as 1333/10600.

As an aside, I loaded WD's diagnostic tools for a failing portable drive and ran the extended test. I stepped out for a coffee and when I got back the system had forgotten the hard drive and was at the boot screen. It reloaded after I selected "boot normally" but then went to the system restore screen. I system restored back to goodness - but now, and I am not sure if it did this before, the MemOK light briefly lights up when booting.

I ran MEMTEST for two loops, all is good - but that was when I noticed the speed/ID issue.

Any help?

PS - I was trying to figure out whether to go Gigabyte or ASUS, glad I went with the ASUS as the bios is awesome.

Memory problem is easy enough to fix just manually set it to 1600mhz. Pretty sure the memOK button should light up when you boot. I will double check for you now

Thanks for the reply - On the first issue, either my hard drive is dying (no SMART problems?) or something is wrong with the motherboard - I tried moving about 30gigs of music from my external to the computer and it froze repeatedly, requiring a hard reboot into safe mode/reboot back to windows. I tried running WD diagnostics long test as the short test came up all fine, it froze on that too. I booted to safe mode and ran the WD diagnostics off a USB drive and it seems to be working fine with no freezing. The HD is about 5 years old - I'd buy a new one as I had planned but really, $230 for a WD 1tb black???

I did update the bios to the latest and set XMP, stil 1333. Is it obvious to an old newb like me how to set the RAM to 1600?
