It looks like a very good idea for those who needs a phone & a tablet.

But in reality, who wants to swap the phone in and out that tablet? Besides, you can't use the tablet alone! The sales will never take off.

It has its own batter so it may work out, provided both the phone and tablet are reasonably priced. I think people are getting tired of spending 600 on a phone and another 400 or so on a tablet just to do everything they want.
Especially if they also need a proper laptop to get real work done.

why don't they have one for this?

They might... patience

Asus Padfone 2 being announced Tue, Oct 16

It may even be compatible with what's out there already. The Infinity is compatible with the T201 keyboard dock even though there's some small differences between the two keyboards. I would definitely hope they'd offer something for it, and would also hope it's compatible with what's out there.

So depending on all that, put me in the "interested" column. Mostly because it's a full HD screen with microSD slot. The tablet thing could work out well for me too but who knows. The phone itself is enough to be tempting.

Yeah, I'm more interested in the phone itself than the whole tablet docking thing. If the rumored specs are true, there is absolutely no reason to even consider the LG Optimus G, the Galaxy S3, or the HTC One X+ over this.

The way I see, barring some major disappointment in this or the Nexus' launch, the only 2 android phones worth buying come November will either be the LG Nexus or the Asus Padfone 2.

Razr Maxx HD has to be considered as well for the battery life (also cause Verizon will most likely not be getting either the Padfone or the LG Nexus).

Little disappointed that there's no MicroSD slot and that its launching on ICS. Those 2 will probably push me more towards the LG Nexus than this. Nevertheless I would still get this over the GS3, OneX+ or Optimus G.

You have to remember that the tablet docks are glorified accessories. That means it's very possible ASUS may have a HD 1080 tablet and keyboard dock for the padphone down the line. The most important part is that this phone is unquestionably the performance leader since it's the first phone with a quad-core A15 krait with Adreno 320 graphics. The rest is just icing on the cake!

God dammit! They damn near took everything away that people used to praise andriod devices for. No MicroSD, and no removeable battery... which would be fine if they actually put a larger than normal battery in there but it's still smaller (the Razr Maxx did it right). Jesus, I feel like everything coming out these days is going backwards in features I care about. *sigh* At least there's actually a 64gig version of THIS one.

The Snapdragon S4 Pro/Krait isn't a Cortex A15 design. And the LG Optimus G, using the same SoC, beat the Padfone 2 to market.

This would be in my OPINION a much better phablet if it had a stylus like the note 2. I really dont care for tablets unless i have a stylus. Stylus with a left clip feature would add far more options. I think ill wait for the padfone 3. Also just curious what carriers will it be available on.

I'd buy this if it weren't for the Note2 coming out. Asus has really matured the design rather quickly. The screen tech looks great and the phone's design isn't cheap/crappy. The docking mechanism is pretty slick. Ultimately though I dont think this will sell. The package together is like $810. If I was a regular user I'd probably stick to my subsidized phone and get a windows 8 tablet to replace my laptop.
