Hey guys,

I lurk on occasion, but rarely post unless I am stumped. I am currently stumped. I recently picked up an brand new ASUS Radeon HD7850 to give my older system a bit of a boost, however, I'm having an odd issue with the card/drivers and my monitor going to sleep.

I have no screensaver active on my machine, instead, I have the power settings set to put my monitor to sleep after 5 minutes of idle time. The issue is, when I move the mouse or hit a key to bring the monitor back out of sleep, the monitor DOES come out of sleep (it's light changes from yellow to green, for example), but the screen stays black no matter what I do until I press Ctrl-Alt-Del which somehow tricks the display into coming back on normally.

I'm running the latest Catalyst Beta drivers, i.e. 13.11 - just updated to the beta drivers from 13.9 yesterday as I was having this same issue on 13.9..

I've done a search and found a lot of people having the same issues with this series of card, but I've found no definite solution yet....anybody have any ideas?

What kind of ports are you using on the video card and the display? DVI, displayport, mixed, etc.?

It's an older NED Accusync LCD71V monitor (I'm too poor right now to upgrade that, haha!) with a VGA plug - I use a DVI-VGA adapter to connect it to the card.

I have the same card, and I recently had the same thing you described. I disabled all the power stuff and so far so good, but it's still too early to tell, only been a few days. Definitely a frustrating issue. I had even more issues with Nvidia, which seem to be gone now that I ditched that card and went ATI. I'm hoping turning off the power management stuff will fix the issue.

I don't know if the plug used matters, but I'm using VGA too.

I'd rather not have to disable power saving features...less power use means less money spent over time....small amounts add up!

I can live with it for now as long as Ctrl-Alt-Del continues to bring the screen back to normal after the monitor won't wake correctly from sleep!

I am having the same issue with a Radeon 7850, it doesn't do it all the time but when it does only C-A-D will wake it. My psu is an Antec 550 (3-rail, even) and I've had no other power issues at all. <KOW>

This reminds me of the old shutdown bug in Windows '98/2000/XP, and I'd be willing to bet the solution will be similar too. I seem to remember a patch for it but don't remember what caused it, registry code or driver maybe. I'd try rolling back to 13.9 first, then the next WHQL after that...or try running on default settings for awhile, see if that works...maybe there is a settings conflict.

And it won't hurt to disable power savings in CCC as long as you have it set in Windows. Just my .02....

PS: Please post back when you discover a solution, and Thank You.

I just shut the monitor off when I'm not using my computer.

I usually do as well, but there are those times you have to rush off somewhere and you forget!

I didn't remember there were separate settings in CCC aside from Windows, maybe I'll take a look at that, but I doubt I'll find a fix....a quick Google search showed a lot of people with this issue with similar cards and no real solutions

There was the same issue with the older Radeon 5 series and it got fixed (for me) either at 13.1 or 13.4 (I'm still on 13.4). Tested on 5770 and 5850. I was having the same exact problem using 12.x drivers.

Even if you still have the issue, you can still set the pc to sleep manually if you are going to be doing something else for while, and it would wake (monitor and graphics) without trouble.
