So are you trying to start a benchmark thread here, or are you just showing off your score?

lmao

...just thought I'd start a new bench thread since I recently tried this software. Btw, I'm a very modest person - no need to stroke me.

Nice score Bush- ...took Eli in one of my Fantasy pools this week w/ ODBjr. --- hopefully they can light-up Jacksonville like last week!

I'll rerun this benchmark tonight w/ my overclocked settings and see where she goes!

IMPORTANT: SKL G4400 results are running SINGLE-CHANNEL DDR4-2133.
=======

I'm a little surprised that the Q9300 came out ahead in anything, actually. This SKL G4400 rig is VERY "peppy". But it looks like a true quad-core can still win out, over a dual-core, in some things.

Edit: I will also note, that at the beginning of the "Heavy Multitasking" test, where they play a video in the background - the first few seconds of that looked really weird and macro-block-y. I put that down the SKL video drivers being still fairly new, although it could indicate an issue with the RAM or SSD in my rig, I suppose.

There were also some pauses, stalls, really, in the video during the heavy multitasking test, that I don't really remember when I benched them with my quad-core. Perhaps those are why the score was lower than the Q9300.

Edit: To add, my SKL G4400 results are with a SINGLE 4GB DDR4-2133 RAM stick, so it's running in single-channel mode. Will re-bench in my new mobos when they arrive, with dual-channel.

I was interested to see the clock for clock improvement that Steamroller has over Piledriver, so I disabled 2 modules on my 8350 and ran the test again:

9.4% improvement in Image Editing.
8.8% improvement in encoding.
8% improvement in Heavy Multitasking.

Not bad. I'm sure we'd see similar improvements going from Steamroller > Excavator. Kind of makes me wish they'd release a 6-8 core Excavator chip as a stopgap until Zen hits, but I know that wont happen .

4m/8t xv with HDL libraries ala Carrizo @ 2.5 GHz would have been an interesting competitor to Broadwell-D. There was a lot of talk about how 3-4m configurations would not have worked out well at all for SR thanks to limitations of the 28nm SHP process, and I won't gainsay that assertion (though the latest Kaveri stepping seems to suggest that problem has recently abated). But Carrizo has some bomb-ass IPC vs. Kaveri, and it would have been cheaper/easier for AMD to roll out some low clockspeed server CPUs thanks to HDL. Er, I think anyway.

Zen has sort-of obviated the need for such a product. AMD either lacked the vision and/or the resources to produce 4m XV products as stop-gaps.

Another reason why I think AMD veered away from 4m chips using newer Construction cores is that they couldn't figure out how to solve the slow L3 cache issue of BD/PD. Or they couldn't figure out a good way to cope with the problem. A single-socket 4m chip without l3 probably could have worked out okay, and the die size would have been small compared to something like Vishera with its huge and slow L3, but for multi-socket configurations, AMD really would have needed that L3 for coherency and uh stuff. So L3-less 4m xv would have been a non-starter on mp configs.

is it worth anything as a stability tester?

Yeah I use it as a quick guage, go for 15 mins stable, then see if it will do 8 hours, then finalise the voltages with Prime95/Linpack.

I find it gets me closer to completely stable quicker than things like Intel extreme tuning or anything else. The x264 encoding provides more of a load.
