Well I do think that reviewers get cherry picked mobos for their reviews, but that being said, they are also more expierienced at setting up the boards. A lot of the issues people have is through inexpierience. For example I learned a long time ago with VIA chipsets on some old Athlons I used to have, that it was very important in what order the drivers for the mobo chipset, audio cards and for the video card, etc. were installed. I have used that method for years and don't seem to have as many problems as others.
I don't worry about new sockets coming out because there is always something new around the corner in computers. I just hand pick the best components I have available at the time and go with it. Yes DDR3 is expensive but so was DDR2 when it came out. It is starting to go down now. But price is not as big an issue for me as it is for others, so I just get the best I can afford at that particular time.
I have read in the Asus forums a lot of problems that some people have with my board. I have not come across any of those problems in my setup, but again I may have a different way of setting up a board than others. There was one young fellow who decided to power up his mobo without a heatsink or fan on his cpu and was wondering why his computer would instantly shut down. He said he wanted to test the other components first before he put it together. Man, did he take a beating on that one, LOL.
Anyway I'm a mild gamer so I will be happy with a 3.8 to 4.0 o/c on my E8500 for the present time which is very easy on my mobo. And in the future when the prices for the QX chips and DDR 3 ram continues to drop, I will be able to upgrade for a couple of years to come and be happy with it. Good luck with your rig.
