It's a bargain!
Only $400 USD, so likely $500 CND.

I'm gonna get two, just so i can pad Asus & nVidia's pockets even more

2 eSATA ports, kinda nice! the page says 10 USB, I see 4, does that mean it comes with a USB card for 4 more and the 2 front? The heatpipes look like they'd get in the way of my monster TT Beetle heatsink. Humm I want a new MB wonder if my heatsink has a AM2 adapter. This MB looks killer, between this or the new DFI I'm going to go broke getting either

This is not socket AM2...this is Socket775 Intel...

Nice board, but way overpriced.

Welcome to the era of $400 enthusiast boards... joy.

That being said, looks like a sick board, i'd take one.

that's not the striker it's the regular one

Soooooo the BIG question is....."What does the Stryker version have that increases the cost that much?".

The Stryker has the LCD readout on the I/O panel, electro-luminescent ports for east plugging in the dark, LEDs that light up the board, some kind of array mic and a bunch of other over-the-top extras.

see here

edit: also looks like only the Stryker has 2x eSATA

Asus is charging so much more for the Striker because they CAN. And I say more power to them, it looks like an awesome board. I'd definitely take one if it were given to me, but I wouldn't buy it unless it were two thirds that price (my P5W-DH was pretty expensive at $270, but it works mighty fine).

MSRP is $339 on the Striker. Anything over that is due to early adopter syndrome pricing.

I figured as much. Wonder when people will start selling them. ZZF seems like one of the only ones and they haven't even arrived yet. I'm seriously considering this board because I have my doubts that the DFI board will be any better.

Well, for those that dont need all those fancy LEDs and lights (which I'm guessing is most of us) the P5N 600 version will be fine. I'm guessing it'll OC just as well as the Striker mobo. Hopefully the P5N 600 version can hit 500fsb or more. I'm going to assume this is the C55 chipset version that replaces the 590 C19 chipset version.

I'm wondering if a Scythe Infinity will fit on this mobo. What do you think?

The whole idea of the enthusiast of computing is really cool. I consider myself an enthusiast, but OMFG, $400 for a motherboard. This is absolutely insane. In my opinion enthusiast pricing is getting out hand. I am not speaking from a cash constrained position, but a position of common sense telling me $400 is crazy!

So what does everyone else think of the price? I mean you can buy computer packages for less than this thing. You can buy a dell w/ 19 inch analog monitor for the same price as this motherboard. Completely INSANE!!!

I will buying a 680i motherboard and 8800gtx in the next month or so.

I am currently sporting an AMD x2 4400 w/ a 7800gtx. I upgrade my desktop about once a year, and my notebook every other year, but this pricing is getting out of hand.

Personally I think its pricey. For that kind of money it better dang well overclock better than anything out there and it better have one heck of a stable BIOS that doesnt have problems. It better also have quality components. I dont care about fluff like lights to see at night and LEDs. I want stability and quality first and then overclockability. But thats just me.

Skott,

Does your P5W DH fit your criteria? How stable is it? I was tempted by the 680i boards, but I am so concerned about PURE stability. Meaning no bsod's. No weird quirks of the board like USB ports not working right, etc.

I might just go for a Bad Axe 2

So obviously the launch was a paper launch because there are none available. When are they releasing it?

I havent had alot of the problems others have had. If you get a mobo with a newer BIOS (and they should all be shipping with BIOS 1300+ by now I would think) you should be fine. Assuming you install everything correctly you shouldnt have stability problems. If you do have an older BIOS the best thing to do is update right away.

BadAxe2 release is early December according to Gary Kay. IMO the 650 &680 series *should be* better mobos but I got a sneaking suspecion they'll rush them out before their BIOSes are mature just like the 965s and 570s in the beginning. Seems to be the nature of the mobo industry lately. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Edit: Yeah, the P5W DH met my criteria. Its for my daughter actually. We needed the WiFi for her room. My next rig wont need that but I do want SLI so I'm looking at the 600 chipset series mobos for my next build. Just waiting like everyone else for them to get out. The eVGA mobo hasnt impressed me yet. Looking towards ASUS's new P5N 600 version.
