Both GF4-4200

V9280 TD vs: V8420S/TD

I can't see the difference. Is one out of circulation or something?

TIA, olias

The V8420S doesn't have 8X AGP support... and it also has 3.3 ns RAM, which I don't believe the V9280 has. My V8420S overclocked to 325/650... not a bad deal if you can find one... Ti4600 performance.

get the V9280 S or S2. The S uses Ti4200 core with Ti4600 PCB and ram. S2 uses Ti4800SE core with Ti4600 PCB and ram. I have the S2 model. It's real nice but my Ti4200 is good too (V9280 VS).

The S2 I can o/c quite a lot.

Thanks for clearing that up... I would definately like to get 8X AGP.

Problem is that... I called a couple of shops and they told me that they can't get the Ti4200 anymore. I can get the ASUS V9560TD GeForce FX 5600 with 256MB of memory for another 38 bux. Is the 5600 much better and how well will it OC.

You don't need 256 MB of memory... and you don't need 8X AGP. Both are marketing scams. That card is not fast enough to benefit from either of those features. By the time video cards need to have 256 MB of memory, the card will be so slow it won't be worth trying to run a memory hog of a game on. And to give you an idea of how useful 8X AGP is... I installed my FX5900 and forgot to enable 8X AGP in the BIOS... I already ran 3DMark... so I enabled 8X, ran 3DMark again, and the score increased by 100. So... even on a high end card, 8X AGP isn't THAT big a deal... and DEFINATELY isn't needed on a Ti4200.

Is there a reason you don't want to buy the card online? You'll get much better prices online... even with shipping charges.

Can you recommend an on-line vendor that will ship to CANADA because that's where I live. Failing that, I will be in Cincinnati next week but I assume stores there like Best Buy will be over priced.

The Ti4800 S2 by ASUS, these are the figures I have reached whilest keeping it stable.

Core: 350mhz (easily)
Ram: 688mhz (easily as well)

The following i also reached but i'm not so sure how long it can stay stable. i didn't have a need for such a high clock speed and gaming didn't make much difference anyway.

Core: 380mhz
Ram: 710mhz

Best I can do on this card is and not have it crash immediately:

Core: 395mhz
Ram: 740mhz

artifcacts begin to appear on the screen tho then it crashes after a less than a minute. but it can reach this level which is kinda supprising.

i'll take a screenshot for u sometime. remember this is not the old 8420S. also, like i mentioned i only got there in windows mode and didn't actually play games with that speed. it got up there and i left it for a bit and since it didn't crash i clocked it back down. it's very possible it would have crashed if i played a game or ran 3dmark.

Actually a combination of AGP 8x and 256 MB is worthless. The AGP speed would be great if you had hardly any memory, and the memory would be great if you had hardly any AGP speed.

The 64MB Ti4200 benefits a lot more from 8x AGP then the 128MB. I read a review on a PCI 5600 256 recently that put it's performance not much lower then AGP because it has so much on card memory.

the 1st pic is stable o/c to 380 core and 685 ram (P.S. the core's limit is around 395 - @ this point the test is unsuccessful)

pic 1

this second pic is me pushing the ram as high as it will go, i get the feeling it can go a bit further but i didn't bother.

Oh, thanks for the info Naffer... I'm just looking for some good fps in for under the $200 USD mark. I prefer nVidia for the easy Linux support.
