1, 2, 4 will be taken care of by the ipad 3

#3 SD card is taken care by icloud. hdmi by the apple TV or the fact that if i want to watch a pirated movie i'll just stick my usb stick into my playstation. ipad 2 battery lasts for days so i don't care about an extra battery in the dock

how many games are actually optimized for tegra 3? apps like flipboard on the ipad mean i don't have to visit 50 websites to read content. Feedly kills the google reader app that google bundles

First, there is no iPad 3 yet and won't be for some time. Feel free to speculate, every one always does. But the Prime is here and now, with confirmed launch dates, pricing, and features.

Second, iCloud/DropBox/etc do not replace an sd card. They tether you to someone else's service, open up additional security holes, and (potentially) raise the cost of the device due to bandwidth.

Third, no tablet is a gaming device. If you're dropping 500+ on a tablet for games, you're doing it wrong. Or are have too much money and need to redistribute that wealth to us poorer people.

Edit - This thread didn't take long to degenerate either. Reviews of the Prime seem to be outstanding, an excellent and well built device from Asus, and it almost immediately gets attacked by iFans.

and with iOS 5 it now supports airplay and airmirroring

$100 apple tv buys you the ability to mirror your idevice to your TV and some games will do split screen for multiplayer. along with youtube, itunes and netflix. no need to buy a $150 keyboard or use an hdmi cable or buy a $150 plastic box a la motorola that is only a phone dock

There are plenty of other threads that you can flaunt your fanboyism in. This just to discuss review of TF201.

good product but any android tablet over $500 is going to be squeezed by the Fire and anything close to $500 will be compared to the ipad

You mean over $200 I think?

But I agree, competition is stiff at both ends, and it doesn't help that the Fire is being sold at a loss. Really tough for anyone to make money on cheap tablets when a company like Amazon can subsidize the Fire with content sales and doesn't have to rely on turning a profit on the hardware itself. Meanwhile, the iPad is so entrenched that it seemingly requires far superior (and thus more expensive) hardware to compete with it.

Guess I'm not surprised to see devices like the Galaxy Tab 7+ and 8.9 selling for so much more than they are apparently worth.

I mean personally, with the Fire and Nook out there, even with their limitations, I couldn't see myself paying more than $300 for a tablet. If it's $300 or more it doesn't even get on my radar. They're just toys and a Fire or Nook can do 90% of what a higher end Android tablet can do anyway, especially if you root it. Once I start looking at the more expensive ones, I start thinking, why not step up just a little more and get a Transformer Prime? Or a Galaxy Tab 10? Or - heh - an iPad?

Don't buy the Monster cables. And HDMI cable is a couple bucks.

Course they are. There's no doubt that Apple will release improved version of their products in time. But we might as well argue about the abilities of the Tegra 6 vs the Apple A7. Completely pointless. Tegra 3 is here now, Transformer Prime is here now. Ipad 3 is not.

While I appreciate Munky's point that there's a place to talk about the Transformer's primary competition in a thread about the new Transformer, I agree with the rest who are saying that this discussion has been thread-jacked into the usual iOS vs. Android discussion.

Let's keep this thread about the Transformer Prime. If anyone wants compare and contrast features vs. iOS products, please keep it specific, informative and relevant to the Transformer Prime and not just random tangential conjecture.

I am really excited about the Prime after reading that review. I am looking forward to getting one as soon as I can buy it locally.

Personally I love the idea behind the original Transformer, but I had three problems with it:

1. It couldn't play high profile h264.
2. The GPU was too weak for the resolution.
3. It was chunky compared to my wife's iPad

This upgrade fixes all those problems. I am sold! I will probably even buy the dock eventually (even though I know that is where the margin is) just to get at that real USB port. This thing will basically kill my netbook, which is my main laptop.

I had the same issues as well. Looks like this is the tablet for me. Hoping I can afford to get one early next year.

Interesting. I had no idea and was considering picking up a Transformer as I was expecting the originals to drop in price considerably. Maybe I will hold off and get the Prime.

Arg, fucking Amazon. The one thing I could not afford to arrive late as I've been talking about this gift for ages now. I doubt I'll get this tablet before next year now =/

Try talking to a CSR. They're usually pretty accommodating and if you've been with them for a long time they'll usually try to help you out as much as possible.
