ASUS transformer screen cracked

My wife has an ASUS transformer that she babies, it is in a protective cover, she keeps the screen protector on it, uses it mostly for facebook and facebook games.

Monday night she is laying in bed, turns the tablet off, places it on the night stand, and we go to sleep.

Tuesday evening we get home from work, she turns the tablet on, and it will not turn on. The screen glows but will not turn on.

Then she notices what looks like a 2 inch long crack on the top of the screen, right around the middle.

We have no small children in the home, no pets could have jumped on the tablet,,,, we can not think of anything that could have caused the tablet screen to crack.

Surely the screen did not crack by itself?

Negative, I did not notice any bulging.

I bought the tablet for her on black friday as an early christmas gift, and I just happened to have bought the extended warranty. I called the warranty company last night, they said no problem and are supposed to be sending us a packing slip.

I called ASUS and they said they do not cover abuse. Since it has a crack I figured they would try to get out of fixing the unit.
