The only thing i don't like about these is the construction. If you press on the center keys, the entire keyboard flexes down. It felt super cheap in comparison to every other laptop that Best Buy carried. This laptop is on the top of my list, but that part is really making it drop a little

I enjoy the keyboard. It isn't the best I've used, but it's far from the worst.

The rest of the chassis felt sufficiently sturdy to me, with a few small areas that gave slightly under pressure. It's not up to par with Apple or Lenovo's offerings, or some of Dell's or HP's, but it's significantly better than a lot of the junk out there.

I am watching this thread. Very interesting. I am definitely looking to pick up something in the UL30 range, just not sure what. I like my netbook but it has it's limitations.

I checked out the 15" VT model at BB and agree, seemed really cheesily built. Plus the 1-big button for the touchpad was a pain. I really wanted to like this series as I think the JT's are going to be real nice. But I'm gonna pass unfortunately.

You may be interested in the PL30JT series that Asus just announced at CeBit

From what little information that's released so far, it will be very similar to an UL30JT but with a more professional (less shiny) look, matte screen, dual botton touchpad, and integrated anti-theft security features. Nothing on pricing yet, but I am sure it'll cost a decent premium over the Ul30JT.

Screen still lower resolution than I'd like. Also need to see what the build quality is like. While the Asus UL series has had lower build quality, some of the Asus laptops are quite good. I have an Asus G1S and that sucker, while heavy, is solidly built. I've been in the market for a new laptop because I need longer battery life on the road.

Look's like it's gonna be a choice between the Asus UL80JT or the slightly higher end Asus PL80JT for me.

I've been keeping an eye on the UL30JT too (at least since someone recommended it to me over on Notebookforums yesterday)

I'm in the market for an ultra-portable with workstation specs and it looks like there aren't too many options.

I'm trying to keep it below 14" (perfectly fine with 12-13" screens) and would really like to keep the weight down around 4lbs or less. My current Thinkpad X60 tablet is 4.7lbs and biking back and forth to work every day makes me wish I had something a bit lighter. I need something with good specs too - lots of number crunching and other cycle-intensive applications. For that reason, I want to get something in either the i5 or i7 range with DDR3 and a good (read: Intel) SSD. Battery life is not too much of a concern, so no need to worry about the LM or UM processors.

Right now the new Thinkpad x201 is at the top of the list since its the only i7 machine with the size/weight profile I can find (12" screen, 2.5lbs! - its like a Netbook with real guts (and a real pricetag!). I'm not too keen on getting one of the Samsung SSDs that Lenovo is shipping with the machines, though.

The UL30JT seems like it might just be small enough to seriously consider. The new Alienware M11x looks great, but I'm concerned that the processor is pretty underpowered compared to the i7s in the Thinkpad. (Even OCing it to 1.73, I wonder how it stands up to the i7 line?)

Anyone know of any other builds that fit the profile I describe?

Price wise - the $1000 tag on the ASUS is certainly more desirable than the $1500 for the Thinkpad, but I'm willing to go up that high.

God is this thing ever coming out? And when it does, what will the price be?

last time I inquired about it with a retailer, they told me Q3 of 2010. So I gave up and ponied up for a Vaio Z
