asus v7700pro driver update problems

I just installed a Asus V7700 Pro (nVidia Geforce 2 GTS) and every time I go and update the drivers for it and reboot .. my computer freezes. I have tried updated Asus drivers and nVidia detonator (41.09) drivers and they both do the same and I am forced to revert back to XP packaged drivers which wont allow me to play Splinter Cell and Raven Shield even though they are both supported video cards for the game.

Any ideas on why I am unable to update the drivers for this card?

Did you uninstall the previous video card drivers that you had before switching to the new video card?

Even after a reinstall of Windows the same problem occurs ... so it wasn't any other drivers/programs that I had installed that is causing the problem. Would there be any other hardware in my system that would cause this?

I reset my BIOS to default levels, which drops my CPU speed to (10.5 x 100) = 1050mhz, from (10.5 X 133) 1400mhz, and it boots fine. So I thought it was a power issue and pulled my modem and put my CPU back to its original speed. Splinter Cell loaded fine, so I thought I had solved the problem, but when I came back on Anandtech to post a reply to this thread that I had figured out the problem it froze again. Things seem to be fine again at 1363 mhz, so I dont know wha the problem is. Power?
