ASUS V9999GT 128mb (6800GT)

I'm thinking of buying one and I would like to know if anybody has any experience with this card, I've always used Gigabyte cards (I'm currently using a GV-R9700PRO) so I'm not familiar with ASUS video cards.
simply put is the ASUS V9999GT 128mb any good, especially for AU$300?

I'm interested in finding out about the reliability of this card, I'm getting it for less than half price but at AU$300 its still a fair bit of money.
anybody had any problems with this card?

That card is not even worth the 6800GT name, its nothing more than a 16 pipe 6800, it has very low clockspeeds, slow memory and a terrifying pricetag.

For 300AU... well you can always try to find the much superior 6800GS for that price or save money and get a 6800.

thats the thing, at AU$300 its half the price of most 6800NU's or 6800GT's thats why I'm looking at it, the performance isn't much of an issue as anything would be faster than my old 9700pro, I jsut really want to know if asus cards are better than gigabyte cards when it comes to reliability

Oh, if the V9999GT is cheaper than 6800NUs then by all means, go for it as it performs better.

Well ASUS is a bigger company than Gigabyte and their cards are top notch quality.

yeah, it's cheaper by about AU$200, I was going to buy a gigabyte 6600GT, but since I have been offered this card I am leaning towards it, but having nver used an ASUS Video card before I'm just not sure about the reliability, I read plenty of reviews on the card and from the look of it, it has the goods, especially for the price I'm getting it at, only AU$20 more than the 6600GT.

It's significantly better than a 6600GT. Performance-wise, it's between the 6800NU and 6800GT.

The only problem with them is that ASUS marketed them like 6800GTs (at least in the US), when they perform noticeably worse than a true 6800GT.

Another thing, would my Antec 350w smartpower PSU, be able to handle this card? my specs are as follows:

AMD Athlon XP 3000+(2166MHz)@3200+(2333mhz)
Gigabyte 7N400 PRO
1GB DDR400
2X WD1200 120gb (raid 0)
LiteON DVD-ROM
Pioneer A08 DVD-RW

if i were u i would either get a 6600GT = $200 or 6800GS = $400 and those are Aus prices

oh and maybe a 400w power supply = $40?

Yes. What is it with people these days and thinking they need 500W PSUs for rather anemic systems by "modern" standards?

it's not so much the GPU that I'm worried about, as the 6800gt would smoke my 9700pro, it's the brand, I've never used Asus(other than an old gf4 mx440 a few years ago which couldn't be killed at all).
So it is really just the brand that I'm questioning thats all, I am aware that the 128mb model isn't really a fully 6800GT as it uses the 6800NU PCB, in all the bench marks I have studied it isn't much slower in DOOM3 or HL2 than a 256mb 6800GT and faster than the 6800NU, so that makes me happy, especially considering it is still faster than the Gigabyte 6600GT turbo edition that is the other option.

the card is a 16 pipe 350mhz 6800gt, the only difference between the asus 128mb model and the 256mb is really the memory speed which is clocked a 350mhz ddr(700mhz) not 500mhz ddr(1000mhz)
the core is a full house 6800GT

I had a 5 year old asus card. sold it recently(geforce2 ti). quality was good. fan was sorta going on the fritz, but when you think about it, it was spinnning at 5k rpm for 5 years...

I also have about 6 asus motherboard based systems. no problems.

Asus seems to be pretty reliable, but I hope you don't have problems with it. From what I have heard, it is touch and go with thier customer service.

As for PSU you should be fine. Don't worry about anyone giving you flack over that. It was a valid question. I too would question it, even if only to set my mind at ease, and to leave that out of my worries.

Definatley go with the Asus 9999 over the 6600GT. But if at all possible, get a 6800GS.

thanks guys, I placed the order for the ASUS card today, I should recieve it in the next few days.
As for getting a 6800GS in Australia, Its easier to find a dingo that will eat a baby.

I sometimes wonder if people actually read all of the posts or just the title.
I am getting this card for HALF of its reccommended retail price(I have good connections) so I am paying exactly AU$300 instead of AU$606.
At AU$300 the Asus card is on AU$20 more than a Gigabyte 6600GT AGP and AU$50 less than an ASUS 6600GT AGP.
All I wanted to know is how reliable are they compared to the gigabyte card, thats all.
