ASUS X370 mobo drivers

Hey there,

I'm working on a new build to replace my semi-dying current rig, and I've decided to go with a Ryzen system this time around; as much as I would've liked to go Coffee Lake, it's hard to justify when the cost of a 1600x plus a motherboard was less than just an 8700k by itself.

To that end, I went with an ASUS ROG Strix X370-F motherboard. Hardware-wise, I've gotten everything installed (and hoping the G.Skill Flare X kit works with it.) I'm at the stage now where I need to start the software installs, beginning with the BIOS and other firmware/driver stuff.

The BIOS is easy enough, grabbed v3203 from the ASUS site.

However, as is typically the case with mobo driver pages, they're usually outdated compared to drivers directly from the various OEMs, so I've been trying to grab them from those places instead.

I'm not sure why ASUS' AMD Chipset drivers package is so massive, but I grabbed the newest version from the AMD site instead.

LAN, I grabbed the latest drivers for the I211AT from Intel. Audio, I grabbed the latest drivers from Realtek, even though the ALC1220 is curiously not listed on their site.. Also grabbed firmware and NVMe drivers from Samsung for my 960 EVO.

However, when it comes to the Asmedia USB 3.1 controller... I can't seem to find any drivers on Asmedia's site. Do they release any OEM drivers, or are you required to grab them from the mobo manufacturer? I'm not even sure what Asmedia chip is being used on this mobo -- trying to Google for this information only returns the same 'features' table on every review site regurgitating the fact that it has an Asmedia USB controller, but no one actually says which IC it is.

Finally, ASUS also lists 'AMD RAID' drivers under their 'SATA' section; Shouldn't these be part of the chipset drivers package already? Do I need to bother with this if I'm not going to be running RAID? I have about a half dozen HDD's to install, but they'll just be in JBOD mode.

Aside from those driver packages, am I missing anything besides their AI Suite and whatever other software?

You don't need to worry about the RAID drivers. However, you probably need the USB 3.1 drivers as it's likely those are the newest released.

If you installed the AMD package drivers, it sounds like you have it all installed unless there is any exclamation points in your device manager.

I haven't installed WIn10 yet, so I'm not sure what will and won't be an issue in Device Manager yet. I'm currently still on my Win7 rig (in my sig) preparing for the install by downloading appropriate drivers ahead of time; I won't be connecting the new PC to the internet right away, which is why I'm trying to make sure I have everything set ahead of time.

I'll ignore the RAID drivers for now then, thanks. As for the USB 3.1 drivers though, I assume you mean that whatever package is on the ASUS site is the latest? I thought ASUS was just repackaging OEM drivers, but I couldn't find the 'source' to get them from, so I wasn't sure.

Yup. Almost every manufacturer who has the USB chipset, has one of two drivers for it that are dated. Heck, Windows 10 might auto install a WHQL driver for it automatically if you're connected to the internet during the install. The latest builds of Windows 10 can remarkably handle the install of most newer hardware like Ryzen. (Make sure download the latest ISO installer from Microsoft). Sure it will install generic sound drivers, but I'd imagine after you install the AMD package, you will be sitting pretty nicely.
