Asus X800XT Video In

Hi,

I have an Asus X800XT PE, it came with two cables for the video card:

9 Pin S-Video to composite VIVO cable
9 Pin S-Video to HDTV ( YPrPb) cable

What I'm trying to do is get my xbox to play through the video card onto my PC monitor. It states on the Graphics card box that the graphics card has video-in capability. Does anyone know how to get this to display on my monitor.

I've tried to connect the xbox cable, (RED, WHITE, YELLOW) to the video card cables that i got but I can't seem to get the output onto my Monitor.

Do I need an S-Video cable, and how if I got one would I select the Xbox to display instead of my desktop for example. Do I need some capture software?

I looked at the manual for you card real quick, it didn't help at all tho. There has to be some option to set the s-video port to composite (red white yellow cables) in. There should also be some software that came with the card to view the input. If there isn't any software, ATI MMC *might* work (ATI Multimedia Center, ships with, or used to, with their tv input cards). If the card didn't ship with a s-video to composite cable, you gotta buy one or make one (if you know soldering - s-video to composite)

You won't "need" the s-video cable for the video, but you'll need the RCA audio of the x-box plugged into your soundcard line-input and either the RCA video or s-video output of the x-box connected to the input on the X800XT. Then you'll need to install the WDM drivers and MMC. You can pick the input with the TV application. You'll be "watching" the xbox on TV, you can run it windowed or full screen or video desktop I guess. I don't know if there is a delay however...maybe I'll try my PS2 as I've never tried it myself.

With that card, it shouldn't be too choppy or distorted. I bought a $50 ati tv tuner card (wonder ve? i think...), and it worked well... but I had to fool around with the settings a lot. I had to bring the quality down a little bit, couldn't run it past 320x240 or there'd be a signifcant amount of delay. That was a couple years ago tho, plus, it was a POS. You get what you pay for, i guess.

Thanks very much for the input, i'll try and download ATI MMC and see if that works. Hopefully it does.

Your right FrecklesTheDestroyer.

Doesn't give any information about the cables and how to get Video In.

I'm not sure if it came with some software called PowerVCR or something but I can't remember at the moment. (At Work). If so will that be the capture software?

Thanks Anyway, i'll let you all know how I get on.

I installed mmc from ati version 8.* and it complained that I didn't have directX installed or WDM (capture driver) which I installed and which I have directx 9.0c.

Can't find an earlier version of the program.

Tried some others which were useless, oh well. I'll have to try something else.

did you install Windows media encoder9? It is required for MMC. Its very important will MMC that all the support software is properly installed. You may want to read this page starting with the installation tips at the top.Link

The ASUS card may very well not be supported in MMC, especially if it shipped with other capture software. You might want to read through the documentation that came with your card before getting too carried away installing software.

I did install media encoder 9 as it asked me while I was installing MMC, I've looked on all the CD's came with my gfx card and I couldn't find any Capture software afterall.

I guess I should try some other form of input, other than my Xbox to test whether the xbox is being picked up by the cables/PC.

Thanks
