I went through a similar decision a few weeks ago and found the Z87-Pro to be the sweet spot. Decently priced with all the higher end amenities like Intel NIC, ALC1150, Wifi/Bluetooth, 12 phase power. Its a very good overclocker compared to similar priced boards. There's a V-Edition that doesn't include wifi but it wasn't available when i bought mine.

I picked up the Maximus VI Hero for my new i7-4770K build. Using 16gigs of Corsair Dominator DDR3 1600mhz 9-9-9-24, and dual Radeon HD 7970's. I didn't need all the extra stuff that was part of the Formula or Extreme models, so I saved quite a bit going with this board.

I've always had good luck with ASUS, and my previous board was an ASUS Crosshair 3 which had all kinds of stuff I never used, build-in wifi, an external LCD screen for showing settings. It was rock solid and great quality. Never had any issues.

This time around I wanted to go with an Intel CPU and looking at the pricing on the Extreme and Formula, I just didn't want to spend the money on the stuff I knew I wouldn't use. HardOCP had a good review on the Hero board

http://hardocp.com/article/2013/08/21/asus_maximus_vi_hero_lga_1150_motherboard_review/#.UmCR71jTm70

So I got the Hero, and after putting it together, it suited me perfectly.

There is no budget per say, i just dont want to pay for stuff i wont need.
I made a mistake before by purchasing Strike 2 formula, hella expensive, was excited when i bought it, but end up using it just like any other 150 dollar board.

At the moment, i am inclined to buy the Z87-A. I am told its as good as any other ones in terms of OC, and no extra flashy stuff, and very well priced.
Like wifi/bluetooth, ...its a desktop, i can add that on later if i really need it
sound card.....i dont care about sound card that much
network card. is Intel THAT much better than Realtek? from my experience, the ISP matters alot more than what network card i am using...

The only reason i went for the deluxe was because it had 2 lan ports(some some reason i have this stupid fear that if one dies i still have another i can use so i dont have to worry about having to buy one and wait for it to arrive). I dont use the wifi and don't use the bluetooth. Im still happy with it.

Good question. Let me put it this way. You should try as best as you can (for piece of mind?) to get a board with built in Intel GB LAN. With that said, if you cannot get a board with one then do not worry about it. Some people swear that there is no difference in terms of gaming and internet surfing.

As for me, I will exhaust every option to get an Intel NIC and get the Realtek as a last resort. Just my personal choice here.

The new Z87 PRO V Edition looks like the deal for me. The PRO without the wifi and BT 4.0 at a cheaper price. The only problem is that it has been announced but its almost nowhere to be seen outside of the US. I wonder when they will start to market it in Europe (France for what concerns me). Anybody has a clue ?

I absolutely love my Maximum VI Hero. No issues, worked out of the box. Great layout, very well done UEFI, decent software (AI Suite), extremely high quality power delivery components, built to last. Probably the most important thing for me is the enhancements to the audio over Asus' "channel" boards like the Pro/Deluxe/etc. It may seem like marketing or a gimmick, but the added features actually make an appreciable difference. Good luck with your new PC!

Just picked up a Hero to replace the Gigabyte that I bent a pin on. It is a perfect board IMO. Nothing extra like Wifi or bluetooth, 8 SATA ports, better audio, straight forward BIOS, power/reset buttons on board, clean layout, like black/red, Intel NIC, ton of status LED's, good components, not too expensive and again the BIOS is clean and straight forward.
