If you were buying one of these two boards today for an i7 920 which one would you go with and why?

http://tinyurl.com/yk9yhej

Really appreciate any comments, suggestions or experience with either of these two boards.

Ugghhh!!!! My bad. I just realized that the P6X58D doesn't have PATA and I have a thousand dollars invested in some fiber optic lightpipe cards for my recording studio so I will go with the P6T.

Thanks!

Okay I must be losing it today; I don't need PATA. I just need a couple of PCI slots which they both have so does anyone want to chime in on the aforementioned boards.

My original question stands and I have picked out all of my componentry and wanted to order my parts ASAP. Which motherboard?

Thanks!

I have the P6T Deluxe v2 so I had to look this one up. There seems little difference in features except for add in support for SATA6 and USB3. Since there is no native support there are only 2 SATA6 and 2 USB3 connectors. The rest are SATA3.0 and USB 2.0 (including expansion onboard connectors). Even the layout is remarkably similar except for the (obvious) blue color and the location of the two additonal SATA connectors (which loses the PATA connector and moves two of the SATA3.0 connectors to the lower edge of the board). Most likely this will be just as solid of a motherboard as the P6T Deluxe v2. I'm not so sure about the reliability of the newer SATA6 and USB3.0 connectors though. Only time will tell. The P6T Deluxe v2 was a revision so the kinks were worked out.

Thanks for the response big guy. Yeah I had the P6T Deluxe picked out now for months and today I go through my list of components to buy today and I see this other girl and now I cannot decide. It was almost love at first sight. I will change my RAM as well if I go with the P6X Premium. She looks kind of sexy for a mom. <g> Just kidding mothers and you know who you are.

Why different ram? From what I can tell, both boards use identical memory and have the same capabilities. Also, your links are borked (maybe temporarily).

Thanks for the head's up; Newegg must be having technical difficulties today, as I have seen some other issues earlier this morning. Regarding the Ram I will check into it but Corsair and Asus definitively recommended the same Ram for the P6X board. I will be moderately overclocking. Again, I will look into this and thanks all around.

Yeah, I looked into it and I am sure both Ram would work fine but Asus doesn't list my Ram that I had picked out for the P6T for the P6X and Corsair doesn't list it either and the Dominator series gets even more stellar reviews. I am probably just ignorant to spend the extra $50.00. Sigh!

I am leaning toward the P6X and the Dominator memory at this point in time. Would like to put my order in tonight or first thing in the morning with 15 items at Newegg. I go with them because I have over a ten year track history.

For what it's worth I went with the P6X and the Dominator Ram. Ordered last night from Newegg along with all of my parts for a new build.

Cool. Keep us informed as to your progress. A thread on your build would be a fun read. Just take lots of pics!

I will be baaaaack (with all of Arnold's inflections) and will indeed report in. ;-)

I am baaack!!!!!!! All I can say is I have built many computers in my day and the ASUS P6X58D Premium is the best motherboard the world has ever seen.

Stunning!!! Oh,... and love at first site. Now my wife is jealous and wants me to build her one and I am. Newegg, do you want more of my money? <g>

Okay, I am considered sick when it comes to the amount of time I do research on componentry. I probably spent 160 hours in the last 4 months researching and the build took me less than a day including my preferences with bios, software, imaging, etc.
All of my system builds are future proofed and last a long time.

i7920 8 cores with hyper-threading
Noctua NH-U9B SE2 92mm SSO CPU Cooler
Corsair Dominator DD3 6GB
4 Hard Drives 2 new huge Western Digitals and two smaller and older Maxtors
Corsair HX620
EVGA 9500 GT
Plextor 24X DVD/CD
Nexus and Noctua case fans
Win7 64bit

Stock CPU speed is running at 34C; I will overclock a bit once I get settled in with some of my digital recording applications and additional audio hardware. Also this system build is extremely quiet and my dB meter cannot even register a reading. Ambient room noise is louder. LOL!!!

Computer is running flawless in every way and was an easy build except for a flawed Win7 product key code and I was on the phone with Microsoft for two hours with three reps from three countries.

Just wanted to chime in and give my 2 cents for you folks who might be on the fence and are afraid to make the jump. Jump!!!! Just go ahead and jump. Jump!!!

Your friend,

HIO

P.S. I have no affiliation to the aforementioned companies except I bought their products.
They can send me a check if they want to and so can everyone that might have benefited from this post. ;-)

For what it is worth I have the same board also, I was able to OC a 902 to 4.2 actually 4.15 something for 16 hrs on Prime in a Half case. This was using the Dominator Ram and a Megahalem.

I personally don't like the look of the Half case so I using my old 690 case now till I get my tax's back and try water cooling with a different case.
If you like the look of the Half it is a awesome case for air cooling OC.

I also like that it supports Sata 6 and USB 3.0. Read that it is guaranteed to support the new 6 core Cpus that are supposed to come out later too.

I am looking into a similar system. What case did you put this in? I am leaning towards the Antec P183. COOL, QUIET, CLEAN and a good monitor. Which monitor do you use in your work?

Thoughts: Cool, Quiet, Clean, GOOD Monitor as some eye problems
Antec P183
Intel Core I7 930
ASUS P6X58D Premium
Kingston HyperX DDR3-1600 KHX1600C9D3K6/12GB
Intel® X25-M G2 160GB & WD Caviar Black 1TB (How should it be partitioned? What Pgm.)
NEC LCD2490WUXi-BK-SV or 2-BK-SV(follow on)
Seasonic X-750
Scythe Gentle Typhoons
Dell UltraSharp U2410 Rev. 2 or HP ZR24W or ASUS VW246H
Video Card is still up in the air. Waiting for the FERMI Reviews
Scythe Zipang 2, Corsair H50, Noctua NH-U9B SE2 92mm SSO

Chuck, I have a professional recording studio so I gutted my rack mounted computer case that fits under my desk and took all of the components and moved them into a brand new Antec case. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811129021

I then installed my new build back into my studio's rack mounted studio case. My Noctua cooler is of a lower profile and works wonderfully.

>Which monitor do you use in your work?

I use dual monitors at all five of my computer workstations. My favorites are these but they are not available anymore.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824001088

If you're looking for a single large monitor consider an HDTV like a 26-32 inch.

I am having trouble installing some high end fiber optic lightpipe audio cards on my new machine. I am afraid my Win764bit drivers for it are not up to par. Hopefully RME Audio and a bios fix from ASUS with cooperation with Itel's X58 chipset will fix this. I am going to flash my bios now to the most recent one.

Good luck on your new build.

Correction. We have lift off Houston. I just successfully got my audio cards working.

Hmm.....looks like this may be my next mobo. Now to get the money........

Ouch, this board went up $25.00 at Newegg.com since I bought it two weeks ago.

I just knew it was going to be a hot item but never expected it to go up by that much.

It is pricey but extremely well made, completely stable and future proofed for the 6 core CPU's coming out along with the addition of USB3.0 and SATA6.0.

It will take three graphics cards but I will not touch that with a ten foot pole.

I will be buying another one and doing another complete build very soon since my wife wants a new computer and she just got a new laptop. Whatever! <g>
