I ignore sports bikes, but wave at anyone else. If feels like a sign of respect, and I don't respect the "teenager wearing shorts, driving 90mph" image.

A friend told me that sport bikes sometimes get a thumbs down, and Harley riders will sometimes give any non-Harley a thumbs down. I don't feel a need to be blatantly disrespectful. I'm on a Yamaha cruiser, so I see a lot of waves, and so far no thumbs down!

I do the low wave. Most people respond to it. Gotten the bird a couple of times from some grizzly Harley riders. I guess they didn't care for my Honda CB350, hah

I wave at all bikes unless i'm cornering, and if they are carring a passenger I dont expect a wave back. Use to be the "wave" was actually more like a left arm raised up 90deg like a left turn position with a clenced fist. Kinda like "power to all biker brothers and fvuck the cagers!" the wave had attitude. now its kinda like a quick little slide off the left side bar and open palm.

Pretty dissapointing. I'm bringing back the old school wave. Oh and heres a pic of my "latest" bike.

I don't wave in town across lanes etc , too many bikes too much traffic, but I do on the HW
I wear the gear even if its hot just cause its warm out doesn't mean you don't get road rash.

At the very least, the very least, you should wear:

- Over-the-ankle boots (specifically-designed riding boots are preferred)
- Long jeans (some form of motorcycle-grade leather over is preferred)
- Motorcycle-grade leather jacket
- Gloves
- Helmet (3/4 or full-face is preferred)

I'm all for your own freedom to ride in whatever you want, but damn, you should at least try to mitigate some of the inherent risks. You do have family or other people who will miss you, right?

Again, it's a free country and you can ride in whatever you like. Just remember that a lot of bikers out there who have seen others go down or who have heard stories or gone down themselves will cringe when they see someone riding in clothes like that.

It's like a show of respect and friendship almost. You wave and you know hey I have to put up with all the same dumbasses you do among other things.

It's just like shaking someones hand. For me it's respect and tradition and I will continue to do it no matter how many people don't do it back.

Possibly because the subcompact drivers are the dumbasses?

I gave a thumbs up to a guy standing next to his BMW hybrid dirt/street bike, and he grinned and waved back. Closest thing in the motorcycle world to my Grand Cherokee

When they pass me on the highway, you know what I do? I don'twave. With their little tassle handlebars and the studded luggage and thehalf-helmets-God, they drive me crazy.

You know who else I hate? BMW guys. Oh, I do hate those guys. I don't waveat them, either. They think they're so great, sitting all upright, withtheir 180-degree German engines. God, I hate them. They're almost as bad asthose old bastards on their touring motorcycles. You know what I call thosebikes? \"Two-wheeled couches!\" Get it? Because they're so big. They drivearound like they've got all day. Appreciate the scenery somewhere else,Grampa, and while you're at it, I'm not waving to you.

Ducati guys-I don't wave at them either. Why don't they spend a little moremoney on their bikes? \"You can have it in any color you want, as long asit's red.\" Aren't you cool! Like they even know what a desmo-whateverengine is, anyway. Try finding the battery, you Italian-wannabe racers! Inever, ever wave at those guys.

Suzuki guys aren't much better, which is why I never wave at them, either. They always have those stupid helmets sitting on top of their stupid heads, and God forbid they should wear any safety gear. They make me so mad.Sometimes they'll speed by and look over at me and you know what I do? Idon't wave. I just keep on going. Please, don't get me started on Kawasakiguys. Ninjas? What are you, twelve years old? Team Green my "O Ring". I neverwave at Kawasaki guys.

I ride a Honda, and I'll only wave at Honda guys, but even then, I'll neverwave at a guy in full leathers. Never, never, never. Yeah, like you'regoing to get your knee down on the New York Thruway. Nice crotch, by theway. Guys in full leathers will never get a wave from me, and by the way, neither will the guys in two-piece leathers. And I'll tell you who else I'mnot waving at-those guys with the helmets with the loud paintjobs. Fourpounds of paint on a two pound helmet-like I'm going to wave back to that!I'll also never wave at someone with a mirrored visor. Or helmet stickers.Or racing gloves. Or hiking boots.

To me, motorcycling is a like a family, a close-knit brotherhood of peoplewho ride Hondas, wear jeans and a leather jacket (not Vanson) with regulargloves and a solid-color helmet with a clear visor, no stickers, no racinggloves and regular boots (not Timberlands). And isn't that what reallymakes riding so special?

Because most of the driving public views a car as nothing more than a conveyance. People who ride motorcycles ride because they love it and anyone else who rides obviously shares that passion. It's kind of a very loose knit brotherhood...well, for everyone except this douchenugget.

I wave to pretty much everyone. I get more lazy about it as summer drags on and I'm seeing piles of bikes everywhere. I wave to scooters, too, but I say "Scooters are gay" under my helmet.

When it's really miserable weather I hit 'em with the "Rock on" sign instead of a normal wave.

I wave to everyone, sports, cruisers, standards, scoots......I've had japanese bikes, and harleys. Not waving because that person is riding a particular bike is freakin retarded.

"yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah!"

That cracks me up every time I see it.

I usually flash a "peace" sign. Every time I try a low wave I knock my mirror out of whack.

I wave to everybody, but usually wait for the H-D's to go first since some of them just flip off any non-Harley. And that hurts me.

Where do you live that people do this?? I've never seen it and I've been riding for years.

I'm in northern NJ. We are overrun with wannabe badass mofos with too much money and no class. Usually I just get an ignore, but I guess that's too subtle for some people. I've also had "no" headshakes. :disgust:

I'm not saying it's a common occurrence. There are a lot of posers around here who believe if it isn't a Harley it isn't a motorcycle. And if you ride one of those non- Harley non- motorcycles you're an asshole who doesn't love America or your mother. I actually met a guy at a party who shook his head in disgust when I answered the question " You ride a Harley, right?" with "no, I'm not into cruisers. I have a Kawasaki Z750." Then he walked away.

I don't know why it's such a prevalent attitude around here. Maybe when they're out riding with their posse they feel they have to show everybody what a hard guy they are or something.
