I think all they were looking for is to have the faster card. The rest will come later.
Anyhow, there's no reason to even upgrade if you have a higher end DX10 part like a GTX260 or similar really.
I wish people would stop saying that. it really depends on the settings and res you are playing and what games you want to play. Cryostasis, BC 2, STALKER Call of Prypit, Clear Sky, Metro 2033, AvP and probably a few others are all pretty demanding for a gtx260 if you want to run the higher settings with a decent framerate.Yeah, no reason to upgrade to anything really. I mean take a look at the games, none of them are unplayable and none of the games coming soon look really impressive. It's too much money for too little difference in overall performance.
Just grab a 5850. Some places have them for ~$260.
It has plenty of power for all the dx11 games. I play mostly Bad Company 2, AvP and Dirt 2 on my PC nowadays and have to say the 5850 is the best value card i've bought in years.

Supposedly Dirt 2 and BF:BC2 are going to get a driver update to increase framerates soon (from xtremesystems forums).
I have even heard of 5850's getting to 1090 core on air which is a 50% increase. 1000 mhz seems common and thats like a 35% oc.

Yup, mine will do 1090 on air, but it becomes a leaf blower. In fact, at that speed it sounds like a 480.
In for another HL2 type drug. Metro2033 is a great experience if ya like games IMO, same for BFBC2 and also Stalker COP.

No, I've tried them and honestly...I hated them. Mass Effect 2 was the last game I enjoyed on the PC. They all play the same, shooters are so damn boring anymore.
Better to buy nothing IMO. Especially for gaming right now...the economy is utter shit right now and $260 is a lot of money atm.
The 3 games you mentioned aren't compelling reasons for me to say DX11 is worth it. In fact, I'd put that $260 toward a console first.

Ok you're right toyota I had to lower my resolution to 1280x1024 to play Max decently with Both Stalkers and Metro 2033.

Oh dx11 isnt why i think the 5850 is worth it. Its the fact it runs them flawlessly at high res and 4xAA with max settings. I bought it cheapo too. Different people enjoy different games.. but to me, BC2 is THE game of 2010 as i've been clocking plenty of hours on MP already. I enjoy the BF series of games, as i upgraded ages ago for BF2 and again for BF:BC2.
But you are right, is it worth it for valve games, l4d:1/2, tf2.. no, IGP are enough for those. I run them on my crap laptop at "work". If you enjoy console gaming, by all means go for it. But my PC platform is still supreme for the few MP games that i and many ppl play.
Edit: it seems to me you just dont enjoy these types of games. plenty of people do and as to whether its worth upgrading, i think it definitely is. A gtx260 is showing its age nowadays. $260 isn't much if you have a job.
