Are not...read any review. All utter shit reviews...probably because nobody puts money into making decent PC games anymore. Just roll out generic shooter crap and hope it sells.

Hey, millions of BF:BC2 gamers would like to disagree with your opinion. Its the most fun i've had in an online fps in ages. If that aint your cup of tea, so be it. ME2/Dragon Age was good, but again, short SP and its over. I don't think its worth the $$ compared to an MP game that i will be playing for 2-3 years.

People are playing that game on the 360 in higher numbers.

The Stalker series (with mods, all games need mods) are my favorite game series and are tied with Oblivion as my favorite games (again with mods, though CS wasn't as good). They have a really nice backstory (actual storyline is 1 of the only weakpoints). You can also bring all current systems to there knee's with some of the graphics mods.

Metro 2033 had potential but its wayyy too linear for me. BF:BC2 has good MP. There are good games out.

The reviews haven't been very convincing to me. It's $50 to spend and honestly there's a lot of stuff I could do with $50 besides average games.
you say there are no demanding games and then we went point some out you just call them shit. you dont decide what is or isnt shit and again many of those are great according to plenty of people. I have most of them but have put them on hold because I really wanted to run higher settings.

$260 is a lot to anyone job or no. Don't be a fucking elitist with me. Maybe you live off a trust fund or something. PC gaming isn't fun for me. It's not fun for a lot of people I know. Shooter games are not cool with me anymore. I want something else. Sadly none of the PC games that have been released have been more than shooters. I'd rather spent that $260 on something more worth my time.

The #1 problem with PC gamers is their inability to not act elitist when it comes to money.

No.. it seems that the problem you have, is your fixation on the fact that PC gaming apparently isn't good these days. I and many will say you are false. So you enjoy your console gaming, good for you... apparently the $50 or more per console game is good value for you, well done.

Good compared to what? None of these titles compare to some of the Gems that consoles have had the past few months. I cannot see forking over $300 for a video card for 1 game that might be fun for a bit online.

I'm of the mindset that today's PC gaming is not what it should be for any of these cards to be demanding prices they currently are.

It isn't good to a majority of the market. That's why Alan Wake was flat out canceled for PC. It's also why CoD got a butchered PC port missing many PC standard features we've used for years. The money isn't there like it used to be.

Performance-wise this a great upgrade over a GTX285, but the noisy cooler is concerning. Maybe the rumored BIOS/cooler update to retail cards will improve things.

is it possible that we could get a custom 480/470 from someone like MSI or is Nvidia restricting that for now?

The numbers of online gamers for BC2 for PC are far higher than both 360 and ps3 combined.

Sure, lots of gamers bought the console version.. but they pay full price for a cut down version with poorer graphics and crap MP support, just to play a short SP and then leave it to collect dust.

So who really got the best value for $$ spent? I think i paid $84 AUD for BC2. So far i've spent nearly 48 hours in MP, and finished the SP in 6 hrs. $1.5 AUD per "hour" of entertainment so far. Now, in 3 years time, guess who had the best value for $$ spent?

Edit: As for the COD MW2 PC ver being castrated, its purely the dev and publisher decision. They realized they can make enough $$ for a castrated version for consoles, so theres no need to put in extra effort for PC. Thats their call. And they lose out on the PC sales.. which also resulted in the highest pirated PC game of 2009, because PC gamers i gather understand "value" better than console gamers. They aren't likely to pay full price for a PoS. In the end, the publisher made enough $$ on console sales so it didn't hurt them regardless. All they lost, was the potential to make a lot more $$ if they refined it a bit and added dedicated server for the PC ver.

Rumour has it that the AiB partners are allowed to release custom GTX470s. GTX480 on the other hand Im not too sure since this is where the power/noise figures tend toward the extremes so the custom designs have to be well thought of. Not to mention the fact that the stock cooler is already beefy.

edit - people seem to think the dust buster is back. Well it isnt.

Hardwarecanuck's SKYMTL input on noise:
The card isn't loud. Neither one is actually. You can't equate noise from a crappy mic on a camera to what a card would sound like in your case with the side panel on. The videos seriously mislead people regarding the noise output.

The problem is most reviewers bench on open systems which is why the card needs to be installed into a case before SUBJECTIVE conclusions regarding noise can be made.

Want loud? Install a HD 4870 X2, GTX 295 or a HD 4890 and you'll get loud.

It does run ULTRA hot though.

Wonder what gtx 4xx card they got? Don't seem all that loud to them?

Guru3d has been incredibly biased of late. They even published an editorial to bash Charlie.. when it turns out he was right all along. ~10-15% performance advantage in real games, huge die size, runs hot, drains a lot of power and very late. All turned out true. What i find funny is that nV had the balls to reduce their TDP numbers to 215/250W close to release date.. when all the power consumption tests put it ABOVE a 5970. Flat out lies from nV.

What Console gems have we seen?

My experience is far from wide-reaching, but for the first time in... well, ever... I feel like my PC experience is sub-par compared to the consoles.

Specifically, I feel like Mass Effect 2 could have had both better graphics and a more PC-intuitive UI; and from what I've read about PC-centric features not being in MW2, I almost start to feel that a console might be a better value. (And believe me, that's a very strange statement for me to make).

Only for the GTX480 part. GTX470 is inline since its TDP is 11W higher than the GTX285 (they have a similiar power characteristics).

Its an interesting question to be answered. Hopefully nVIDIA can tell us what really happened, and what is causing all these high figures. Leakage? bad layout? or a bug somewhere.

Whatever dude, Guru is a great site, thats total bullshit.

Here is some Metro 2033 benches since AT didn't post them.

5870 and 5850 is getting it's ass kicked in this MODERN game.
Click the resolution tab to see performance in 1900x1080, it gets worse!!!!

And the Unigine 2.0 benchmark the 5850/5870 gets it's ass kicked again.
This is another look at the future.

Unigine is crappy benchmark for many reasons (possible nvidia favoring, cruddy use of tesselation, its a benchmark). Metro 2033 has some serious engine problems for some people.
