you know that little chihuahua that keeps barking and just threatens to bite you even tho it knows it cant and you can easily punt him clear across the continent?
I kinda feel sorry for Nvidia. They must of known this would be a let down a long time ago and they've obviously tried their best to cover the holes.
Power draw is a lesser issue for me but I'm not going near these cards for the noise at load more than anything else.
Oh well, at least it's out (general feeling I think). Nvidia will be licking their wounds and come back with a stormer of a card to follow it up.... I'm looking forward to future battles.
Anyone going to (pre)order one btw??
p.s. In AT's review sounds like someone got their fingers burnt on the heatpipe... Ouch!

What really got my attention was the minimum framerates the gtx cards were getting vs the Ati cards in the anandtech review.
That was the most impressive thing about the cards in my eyes.
I doubt there's going to be a comeback for Nvidia this time, ATI should already be revving some harsh processing power in their labs at this time. I predict another ATI doubling in performance sometime in early to mid 2011...
Just like last round but late to the fight. but I think these cards have good potential for a long 12 round fight with a knockout. I think it depends on how the game developers use tessalation and direct x 11.
I agree. Once Nvidia refines their manufacturing process Fermi will probably be a very efficient design.
Of course, At the same time ATI has been working on their next design for the last 6 months.
I didn't see minimum frame rates measured in the Anandtech review?
Or is this another review you are talking about?
yeah thats true but its also NVIDIA's designIt's TSMCs process anyways and the more it gets refined the more it helps ATI as well so it's not like get ahead while ATI stays put.

I see the minimums on the first link. Yes, that is impressive. I wonder how much of that is due to 1 GB VRAM being a limiting factor?

Both great points. After reading more reviews, I'm likening this release to that of the HD2900XT. While Fermi has more consistent performance, it's still too expensive, too hot, and too loud for what it does. However, I do think their are the seeds of a decent architecture in there. The HD2900XT eventually gave us AMD's 4xxx and 5xxx series, which both were and still are fantastic. Couple the Fermi architecture with some refining and a process shrink or two and you might see a great gaming card in the future. On the flip side, AMD's "Northern Islands" architecture is supposed to be coming as soon as the end of this year, so who knows. Things still could be interesting .It's TSMCs process anyways and the more it gets refined the more it helps ATI as well so it's not like get ahead while ATI stays put.
I can see ATI making a 5890 clocked at 1000 core with faster ddr5,but thats a refresh not a whole new design. It still will have the same sp count and features.
But I think that they will hit a wall at this point.
A 1000 core 5870 would probrobly = a gtx 480 with 480 sp's.
A refreshed gtx card could be could scale much higher (then 600/700 core) and give more performance and more sp's (512).
For me I think I'm gonna crossfire my card for 150$ and wait a little.
