Well, if I have not mentioned this before I work in sales at a Gateway Country. And guess what, yesterday I had 25 coworkers, today I have 12.

Amazing how much a company can downsize in just one day. I really feel bad for those people I worked with who lost thier jobs today... I am still having a hard time coming too grasps with the fact that I was chosen to stay.

Just needed to vent, thanks for listening.

As a fellow Gateway Country Employee i know how it is going. No cuts at my store so far and us Techs are untouched for now. Every company downsizes at one time or another, I feel for your co-workers who were let go but also be happy that you still have your job.

I made this comment about 2 weeks ago when they announced that 3,000 people would be laid off.

Was today when the actually terminations occurred?

My decision is to take a hit and become part-time or accept the severance package and move on.

EDIT: My severance package is 2 months pay.

My friend was cut today also. But he got 5 weeks severance pay. At least that was nice.

There is another part to my option which involves changing positions and returning to full-time status in the near future. That is what is requiring me to think about it.

Acouple of friends of mine are techs at the local country stre here and so far the techs haven't been touched there but they are definately nervous.

Sorry to hear this news My advice, take the money and run....... it's not worth the aggrevation of going to part time.

Yeah, the nice thing about techs is that they kinda have job security, unless Gateway wants to have 1 moonth turn around on repairs.

Fortunately for me I am only PT, so I didn't have to take a cut. They actually got rid of 7 of 10 full timers, 2 managers, and a few part time.

Realistically, it makes sense they get rid of full time, because they get the most benefits, and cost the most to employ, so-to-speak

Well PCAddict I hope you find a job soon that suits you man. I just found out what our first hit was and its one of our ASM's who has been here since the store opened 2 1/4 years ago. They gave her the option of a store 1.5 hours each way from her house to ASM at or Severence. The other ASM has been with the company like 6 months. Most of us in the store are very pissed off right now that they pretty much fired her. I as far as i know still have my job as well as the other 2 Technicians at my store. Hope everything goes ok for Everyone who was Cut.

I already have another job lined up. I had it ready a week before the layoffs came.

But, I did like working there for the most part, until recently. I kept the option open of returning at a later time if a tech position opens up.

They shipped one of our ASM's to another store to replace a friend of mine who was an ASM there. They gave him the option of severance or taking the new "sales supervisor" position which is lower-paying than what he had. He took the severance. Another friend of mine at a different store did the same thing after being given the same option.

i hate gateway and that is the lamest slogan out there...it sounds like something poochie the dog from a few episodes of itchy and scratchy would say...

"at gateway country, people rule...to the extreme!!!!"
