kinda like microsoft. many hate it but many have to use it because of compatibility and popularity.

Never actually had a problem with it, with 30+ transactions (a mix of buying and selling). I've had to file 3 claims (buying) when stuff wasn't sent, and I got my money back every single time. Works out great for me!

Thanks Renesis, I agree with your reasoning.

I am filing a long form claim against a seller who took $440 from me and PayPal found him at fault. Since he had no money in his PayPal account, he never had to give it back. It's very sad, but this may be the stepping stone to get it back. I already had police involvement, etc. too, but still PayPal denied giving money back.

Paypal suspended my account with $6000 for 7 months and I got only half of the amount back. Those money were in my account more than 2 months and when I decided to take them out, they suspended my account. I am going for the long claim form.

i'd go to court over 3000 bucks and interest accrued, not a long form

About time paypal has to pay for its practices. They charge the seller back for any issues they get, someone paid me and then disputed with their cc company, in turn paypal took the money out from me. A really shady company, too bad they have a near virtual monopoly on ebay and other places.

Guys I'm a little confuse. I got this e-mail too and I thought it was a scam. Anyway I live in Canada and when do I have to reply or anything to claim my $50 U.S? I'm a newbie when it comes to this kind of stuff and if anyone can help me, that would be greatly appreciated. Btw if I get the letter then I can claim my money right? Cuz I can't remember when I joined..Pretty sure it was before jan or during jan. of 2004.

I wonder if those of us in the statutory damages group will even get our 37 cents back in postage... $1MM ain't a lot to spread over several million people who could file a claim...

It's like those of us who got like 30 cents for the citibank settlement... Why bother when the lawyers get all the money anyway...

Oh and for those who can't RTFA, you get $50 if you've been wronged, like account suspensions, unauthorized debits or credits, etc. If you have a clean account like me, you get jack.

So, it's not $50 free for everyone, just for those who have been wronged and are too lazy or too cheap to pursue the matter themselves.

Can I file if I had to send/cancel payment 2-3 times before the recipient actually received the payment?

I entered the auction number in and it said the wrong email address for payment. The seller did not specify a different email either. I received my product late because of this.
