Trees and bushes are really hard to HDR. It's much easier on a camera such as the 7D. On my 5DII it's a struggle. Next time I would try to bump up the shutter speed to try to get less blur. Over all still a good picture!

this HDR did not work. You did not retain good exposures on the shadow areas, but good exposure in the highlights. How many shots did you do? it just seems like this HDR was done from a single image, which is pushing the limits of what the camera can do for you anyways... this might have worked better without the HDR, and just put the trees as a silhouette.

Thanks! This shot was five exposures, but no tripod and I don't think my exposures were far enough apart. It was my first, so I'll keep practicing.

You don't need HDR. Photograph the world as it is. Light and shadow are reality.

we need HDR because our eyes perceive in HDR. cameras (according to DXO labs) has a maximum of 14-15 stops (digital) of dynamic range. Our eyes has about 25.

And your screen has even less dynamic range because its max brightness is so much lower than sunlight. HDR is a misnomer. It's just compressing the real world's dynamic range into what a monitor can display, which is why HDR pictures look fake.

Here's my best pic from a hike yesterday. There were a TON of these spiders all over the creek I was hiking up. This one was probably the size of a dime.
