Dangerous business if you have OCD and are taking cat pics using an ultrawide lens. One sudden movement and you end up with a cat nose shaped smudge on your lens.

Used my 135mm from fairly near. Pretty sure I looked like a one of those AA guns on modern warships trying to catch this bee.

Attempted the skyline yet again. Went out around 11:30pm since it was nice and clear and quiet. Or so I thought. Ran into a curious raccoon, then quite a few people. Loads of lovers coming and going and smooching in the darker areas. Some random kid and guardian came in with the Frozen theme song Let It Go...

Didn't turn out right despite shooting it 2x with the 135 and 2x with the 50mm. In almost the same exact spot, I bumped - or maybe the wind jostled - the tripod. Tried with 50mm and it was okay, but I still got blur in a couple shots. Next time I'll bring some more weight to stabilize the tripod.

So here's the latest one with the saturation and vibrancy maxed out. Got maybe 3/5th of the city's brightest bit at the lookout park in West New York. My 3 year old enjoys seeing the rainbow colors, so yeah it was worth it, lolol, even if it isn't "perfect".

I don't think I've ever seen a hummingbird on a tree in my entire life, lol. Makes my eyes water with amazement. Gonna go on Flickr to like it again because I like it so much.
They were pretty awesome to see. We saw a ton when we went to Tucson to see my fiance's family. The hardest part about the hummingbird pictures was getting the camera to focus on it. I had two big problems: 1) I didn't have my 200mm lens and was working with my 28-75mm f/2.8 Tamron - so I had to get pretty close [the picture still had to be cropped a lot], and 2) the camera didn't really want to focus on the birds, it would rather focus on the trees.

At least a few came out good.

Here's a few hummers from last month, Madera Canyon, Santa Rita Mtns, AZ. Brain, if you get back to Tucson, Madera Canyon is a hummingbird hotspot and all around birding hotspot plus it's a great place to hike.

Male broadbill

Magnificent Hummingbird

Left to right: young male magnificent, female broadtail, female magnificent.

Black chin attacking a magnificent hummingbird and yes, he really was jabbing her.

Those are great. I didn't get any hummingbirds at my feeders this year.
At our home feeders, the numbers were down a bit but okay considering how dry the summer was. We had broad bills, black chin, Costas, Annas, and a broad-tail passing through. No Rufous this year.

Went to the aptly named Hummingbird House in Patagonia, Arizona today.

Broadbills were the most common hummers present today.

A couple young male broadbills just coming into their colors.

Young violet crown hummingbird

Female rufous hummingbird

And a sadly out-of-focus Anna's hummingbird. He's gorgeous.
