Thanks for such a detailled answer!

Thanks Berliner! Again, digging the abstract.

No plugin. just a preset for Lightroom.

Contrast: 100
Highlights: -20
Shadows: +40
Clarity: +100

Slight S shaped tone curve, sharpening at 55, and a vignette. Then I tweak the sliders as needed.

I think the pictures from my 6 megapixel cam would start glowing like crazy and probably explode with these setting, but they work great for you!

I know I'm lagging behind here, but two more of my pictures:

Arthropod legs

O Captain! My Captain!

Uh yeah, you're going to have to explain a bit about this to me.

What does to "stack" mean, and will I then understand the 33%?

What focal length was that shot with?

Side note: That is superb.

Photo stacking is where you blend different shots together to reduce noise.

You can also use it to combine multiple shots with different parts in focus to create an image with more parts in focus, this is often done with macro photos since the DoF can be razor thin.

I'm guessing he used 67-68 shots out of 205 he took.

Thanks guys! It took a lot of effort to put it together.

I used my 3.5" telescope with the camera directly attached to the back (called prime focus). It acts as a 1250mm lens, effectively 2000mm with the 1.6x crop factor of my Canon T4i. The moon nearly takes up the entire frame at over 3000 pixels in diameter.

Stacking takes the best shots out of a pile of photos (or a video) and sort of averages them together to remove noise while increasing detail and sharpness. The result is a much better photo than any individual exposure.

Here's a guide if you're curious.

Thanks for the additional details - it seemed unreal that you'd get that level of detail with a "normal" camera lens.

It seems like stacking is most useful for low-light situations - i'll have to read more on this.

Wow that is awesome! I'll have to read up further on stacking.

Here's a few pics I got recently:

Sun rise (the beauty of working night shift, get to see this)

Stratospheric balloon launched from our airport the other day (most people on Facebook kept saying it was Jupiter till I posted it LOL)

Sun rise from my telephoto lens on that same day

I love this... the contrast of the glee in the womans smile compared to the stodgy-fucktard-haters.

lol me too...its too bad she isn't running by slapping each one of those protesters in the face with her flag...

Thanks both! My friends and I joked that I should run down the line behind them and slap them all on the asses. Some of those old geezers would have probably stroked out.
