Summer Solstice hike last night - the only corrections I did for this photo was bring highlights down 20 and cropped it 16:9 / adjusted tilt.
The color was insane.

Tonight I shot this picture of the ground with my shadow with my phone, and just over-edited it since it was night time and it looked like garbage of course. Using Snapseed it turned into something kinda cool and abstractish looking. Not my usual type of shot ;p

Venus and Jupiter are getting closer as they near conjunction on June 30th. If you look closely at the photo to the immediate lower right of Jupiter you can spot Callisto, Jupiter's second largest moon. Also bonus Beehive Cluster in the bottom right corner.

The next two nights, Jupiter and Venus are in conjunction - check it out as the sun is going down.

This is 200mm on full-frame, so any of you DX guys should get an even better shot of the moons assuming you have at least 200mm.

nice ^...its not often that you can capture all 4 of Jupter's major moons (usually one or two of them are hiding behind the giant planet at any given moment)...and is that photo bomb our first visual evidence of a dog-like race of extraterrestrials?

Turning off VR when you're on a tripod can help - who woulda thunk.

I realize this isn't Hubble quality stuff, but it's exciting to think with a meager 200mm you can make out Jupiters moons!

Carlton-fritz --- could you imaging 600*1.5 ... you could probably make out some detail of Jupiter itself. Knock on wood you have good weather in the next few weeks while Jupiter is still around. ( 900 mm = 0.5 second maximum shutter speed before it streaks... that's pretty effing fast. )

I've got a 300mm that'll work (my autofocus sensor is all messed up on my D7K, but it won't matter for this.)

I've got a Astrotrac that I can get working if I like, and that would let me do a longer exposure...but I'd like to try a static shot first.

^-- I actually like this shot a lot and the B&W treatment - I'd like it a lot more if the dude on the right a) wasn't there at all or b) his nose wasn't clipped.

While I don't believe we can ever truly eradicate hate, I'm proud that our march for equality pushes forward.

I've been told that, at past KKK demonstrations, there is so much security that you can't really get close enough for pics. We'll see.
