Thanks! Not HDR, all edited single exposures: up the shadows, drop the highlights, clarity, contrast, soft light layer, dodge, burn, adjust curves, sharpen. Varying degrees of that stuff depending on the picture.

Yes, ISO 5600 ( I had auto-iso on ).

I had my 24-120 at 120, and I have auto-iso set to aggressive mode ( 2x focal length I think ).

It was very dim, the sun was setting behind him and I had very unstable footing on some nasty breaker rocks at low tide. I went out further than I should have to attempt the shot and was not going to come back with something blurry....

LOL no idea, but they made the shot really i couldn't really tell what was going on from where i was sitting, but the timing turned out just about perfect.

What program do you use? I have nothing for editing photos.

I use Lightroom, export as .tif, then edit some more in GIMP. It depends on the photo, most of the times I just do light edits and Lightroom takes care of it. Batch editing in Lightroom alone justified the price.

lightroom does a great job for most of what's needed for a few touchups here n there, agree 100%. but why .tif ? and what kind of additional edits are you using GIMP for?

It depends. Sometimes I edit using layers and masks, or do things like this:

There were some nice lightning/thunderstorms in Arizona when i was camping a while back didn't have a camera with me to try taking pictures. I'd imagine getting the timing right for them is kinda hard without lightning triggers or spamming pictures and luck.

I didn't want to put my camera outside our stoop for fear of it getting wet ( it had been spitting rain drops. )
So, I set it up on the stoop... struggled to get the intervoltometer setup to take 250 shots at 5 second intervals, guessed (poorly) for exposure and pressed GO.
The instant I pressed GO, the strike happened. The next 249 images are damn near black.
