Thanks, I have a 105mm lens as well and it looked similar, though yours is sharper in more areas than my typically comes out so I assumed some kind of stacking involved. Cool shot. How many did you take that didn't turn out? I like to do without a tripod in most situations and the 105 can be unwieldy to handhold.
Oh I take countless shots that don't turn out, although it definitely improves with practice. My 105 has image stabilization so that does help too. Once you get one shot that turned out nice, you forget all about the 10 others that didn't! The 105 is only slightly bigger than the 35mm 1.4, so on a decent sized APS-C body, it doesn't seem too unwieldly, at least for me. I just find that 105 is slightly on the long side, at that focal length coffee-hands definitely work against you big time.

I do have a tripod, but I found that for macro it really just gets in the way. I have a monopod arriving some time over the next few days, I can't wait to try that one out.

A few from the other day:

The last two are target practice for basically just panning the camera during the exposure as you follow a moving subject to blur the background with motion. I remember learning about this a long time ago but it's really hard and I just figured i'm not good at moving subjects lol, but I had the random urge to try it again recently and was pleased with a couple of them!

Navajo Bridge, Grand Canyon, Arizona. I'm leaving the pic full size for a reason. Where's Waldo?

Cool image. Was zooming in and checking out the support landings and the ladder going down and noticed to what looks like a vulture sunning himself underneath bridge on a girder. Either that or its a human bird hybrid.

Yea t think they were in Arizona but I stand corrected.
It's a California Condor, the rarest bird on earth.

Sweet, nice zoom. I remember when they started the program in CA when there were just a few left, And now over 400. I didn't realize they spread to that area that's why I didn't think of them. That's a very rare glimpse there.

The Peregrine Fund has a condor release site on the Vermillion Cliffs on the north side of the Grand Canyon. Navajo Bridge is just few miles away. The bird in the pic nested with another condor within view of the bridge this year. There was a chick but it died before fledging. Some of the condors hang out at the top of the Bright Angel Trail on the south rim.

Just got back from a 2-week road trip around some national parks. I got a bunch of pics to sort through, so I'll trickle a few favorites out as I get the RAW files processed.

This guy woke us up by shelling our tent with green pinecones at about 6am in Grand Teton. I eventually got up and caught him munching away while perched on my bike's handlebar grip.

Went out in the field in front of my house to take some pics but there were people not that far yelling and being routy and getting closer and did not want to be part of any kind of altercation so ended up going in my back yard. Oddly, this is the pic that turned out the best:

These are quite heavily adjusted though as there was a lot of glare, I think there's still a bit of fog out as it was super hot and humid today, so it's amplifying the light pollution. Could get better pics if I drove out of town a bit.

Hoping to get a good northern light night again this year.

For anyone who happens to be in the area, next Sunday, September 30, there will be a condor release at Vermillion Cliffs. The release is open to the public .
