When I was working for a cable TV company in houston we had some people who refused to grant us access to their backyard. A couple of landowners even pulled a gun to make the workers leave the property.

After the police were called, the police explained to the property owner that they had to grant us access.

If the land owner did not grant us access, the police would be forced to arrest the land owner, or restrain the land owner until we finished our work.

If you do not want people going on your land, do not buy land that has a right-of-way or utility easement.

I thought they had to notify the owner of any planned work, even under an easement.

Same for anyone that has burial on electric. I built my shed right over the top of the feed to the house... They'll hook up a truck to the think and pull out out of the way if they need to... Highly doubtful that my residential feed to the house will ever need to be dug up unannounced.

AT&T trunk line? Yeah... They are going to fix the problem first and worry about you after. Did you know you had a trunk line in your yard?

Awesome

Don't you have another motorcycle to wipe out on and finish that brain damage of yours you piece of shit?

Dave was vacationed for 2 weeks as a result of that post (and a couple others.) Please don't sink to this level. -Admin DrPizza

Maybe their air dryer failed and water got into the cable. Had to dig up where the most likely culpit is (probably a junction point) and cut/resplice a piece. Just a guess though.

I'm still curious to see a pic of the damage and cables though.

Before we moved in there was some work done by some service company that had dug up the yard. The previous owner had to bug them a bit to get sod put in instead of just seed. So be sure you talk to them about their plans to restore the yard. the part of the yard they worked is now worse than the rest. Going to have a landscaper come in and fix it up a bit in the spring.

Hah! It just occurred to me! The OP stated that they had to dig up a couple of small trees (and shrubs.) Maybe the roots from the trees caused the problem in the line. Next up: bill for damages caused to trunk line by planting tree directly above it. "Call before you dig - you obviously didn't call before digging a hole to plant that tree in."

AEP Ohio actually ran a tv campaign a few years ago, warning the public of the dangers of digging in their own yards, even small holes of things like landscaping. Of course it had the dramatic flair, someone hitting an electric wire with a shovel, dying, etc, but hopefully it got the point across to people. Utilities are everywhere, and most people haven't the slightest idea what is where.

a high pressure gas line hit looks like a meteor strike . They run all over, most people are unaware. The gas line companies post the signs, they seem to get ignored. These 48" size pipes can have 100,00psi natural gas running through them. I went with a Colonial Gas Co locator to find one at a customer location. He said the pipe would be about 11' deep . It was 3' deep.He said the pipe had 'risen' due to ground movement(?)We moved our work way over to avoid his line.A map of gas lines looks like a giant spider web and they are everywhere.

10,000PSI? Wow that is insane! Never mind the fact that it's flammable, I'd hate to see a break in one of those even if it did not ignite. D:

When my weeping tiles were being redone I was watching the backhoe operator carefully dig around where my gas line is. Made me a tad nervous. It was a smaller line though so I imagine it was maybe 100PSI or so, or whatever is the normal pressure of a residential drop before it hits the meter. I imagine the pressure probably drops a bit more at the meter too.

I think the above "," should have been a "." = 100.00 psi. There's not much chance a 48" pipe is going to carry 10,000 psi. Not impossible but it would need to be very, very thick and strong.

Years ago I hit my gas line while putting in a retaining wall. I didn't get charged for the repairs because the line was about 20" above where it was supposed to be.

No update? This story had potential but now I'm about ready to yawn and conclude the OP caved in and redid his backyard himself.
