Why are you paying $130 ??
For 2 people with 3gb data, it should be $100 + tax- any discount you have.

That's what T-Mobile quoted after lowering it from $140 and added 1 GB to each phone.....this was done just last month.

Even if it was $100 + tax, is it worth switching over to AT&T in the long run? I know I'll be paying more for this special offer, but unsure dealing with AT&T.

I'll also be buying my first smartphone (android), so that also plays into this....

You're talking to the wrong people.
You should be paying $100+ tax of 2 people.

This ATT promo doesn't help you at all with 2 people.
You would be paying $130 for the 30gb + $15 each line. Thats $160 total.
This is only good for people that will have 5+ lines.

With AT&T Mobile Share 15GB or more (where the double data applies), it doesn't make sense to do 2-year contracts because NEXT would be cheaper, unless you have a per-line AT&T FAN discount (NEXT is $15/line instead of 2-yr contract $40/line, and your phone payments per month will typically be less than $25/month)

Therefore, you just need to compare the cost of service, don't need to compare cost of phones (since you'll be paying essentially out of pocket for ATT or T-mobile anyways, or installment pricing)

T-mobile base price should be $80 for 2 people before tax/fees, without device installment or additional data charges.

$140 for 2 people w/ unlimited before tax/fees/device

This... Unless you have 4-5+ lines or use just a huge amount of data, it probably isn't for you. This deal is a no-brainer for families that use a decent amount of data per line and find themselves having to watch the "odometer" each month

Do you make international calls etc.. on your two lines?
maybe you can join my family plan and save some money

Thanks Kaerflog & BProfundo........with all these choices available, I'm just overwhelmed and I'm glad I asked you guys!!

I'll check with T-Mobile on the $100 + tax and see if my $130 bill should be lowered.

@isekii.....LOL.....that would be an interesting idea!!

Now, back to choosing a good mid range smartphone.

Thinking of switching from Sprint to AT&T. Currently 3 of us share a Sprint unlimited everything plan and it costs about 216/mo after tax. Thinking of doing the AT&T doubled data plan 15/30 which is a $130/mo base price.

Anyone know if I would be able to add my brother to the AT&T plan (4th line) and use his 25% qualified employee discount for our plan even if he is not the primary on it?

Somewhat related, what is the cheapest way to test-drive the AT&T network? I'm thinking of getting a cheap Lumia 635 ($80) and doing straight talk for a month to make sure I like it before switching everyone over...

just remember that you'll need to get new phones for everyone when you switch from Sprint to AT&T (unless you have the nexus 5)... switching cost is higher (or you commit to a higher per month fee for subsidized phone)

dont think straight talk throttles LTE much anymore, so it's a good way to test drive

I still have 2 grandfathered unlimited plans and I'm thinking about switching. One thing I like about the unlimited is I don't have to worry about extra charges if I go over a limit. With these plans what happens when you go over the limit? Does it just cut you off, send you a notification, add a fee to your next bill?

I think it's a fee per GB over. I like not having to worry about extra charges, but with the 30GB plan, I'll have a 15GB buffer for what we normally use in a month.. If I go over that, I'm in trouble. lol
