AT&T Uverse Router and my own. Can I make mine primary?

I have a Buffalo HighPower N600 with DDWRT http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1. It helps with the gaming PCs I have in the house. We just got AT&T Uverse which (I guess) added their proprietary router.

Can I somehow add in my router and make it the primary? It's confusing and I don't want to have the experience of one person getting kicked off a game when I join their server like I used to before I had this N600.

In order to do so you need to be able to reconfigured your ATT Router to act as a transparent Modem (No Wireless or Routing).

Search for the model number of you ATT device and the term Modem Only and see what you are coming with.

Otherwise, try to use the Buffalo with its Dual Band capability as an additional Access Point.

In general

You can leave the current Modem/Router as is.

Get a nice Dual band Wirless Router.

Configure the New Wireless Router to work as a Switch with an Access point.

Then set the old Wireless to channel 1 and the new to channel 11.

You can set the old Wireless to do b/g/n, and new Wireless to do only a/n (or whatever other combo suits you).

Security should be the same, or whatever is needed for your specific Wireless devices.

Oh my... this sounds way over my head. I guess I'll wait and see if we have problems... God I hope not. I can't even figure out overclocking much less understand what any of that means.

bridge mode is your friend here. Sometimes it takes some time for the provider to set it up properly.

I have been to people's home that thought they were in bridge mode, but they were double-natting and other bad mojo.
