I'm gonna hit the big four O later this year. Should I start shopping for walking canes?

As soon as you say it is old.

I've seen plenty of people in their 90s, barely able to move with a walker, wait for the perfect song, ditch the walker, and dance the most graceful waltz you have ever seen quickly moving all over the floor with perfect timing, then shuffle back to the car with their walker.

They didn't let their body get in their way.

I'm 42. Started feeling old mid 30's. Joints ached, muscles hurt, I was tired and lethargic all of the time. I then got a cpap and didn't feel tired anymore, but still hurt.

Had cancer in 2015, lost a ton of weight, killed cancer, and kept the weight off. Now, 80 pounds lighter at 42 years old, I feel almost as I did in my late 20's. In other words, overall health is more important than age. If you are overweight, lose the fat and it makes a tremendous improvement on overall quality of life.

i started to feel old when i was 27-28. more in the mind than the body.

body hit me a couple years later. i used to ride a bike a quick 50 miles for fun. nowadays, that'd do me in.

Early-30s for me, I have all kinds of different pains now that I never used to have. Most are probably due to mental stress at work, which I suspect will kill me before retirement- and I work a desk job with no physical effort whatsoever!

18. That's what I first started to get injuries in sports. They never stopped after that.

I'm 35 and my body doesn't "feel" old, although I do have a chronic lower back problem from lifting wrong years back. I can aggrivate it if I do something weird to it. But in general when it's nice outside, I'm outside doing stuff and am active and lift weights regularly. It definitely takes longer to recover from aches/pain/injuries now though for sure, same with hangovers.

I "feel" old when I go to bars now a days though and see the people who can just barely legally drink and they look like children.

Depends on injury, genetics and body weight.

I have screws/pins/wire holding feet, ankles, knees, and shoulders in place. Some days I feel older than others because of the various surgeries due to injuries. I feel old every time I realize I can no longer throw anything overhand properly anymore nor just break out into a sprint like I was when I was younger. Sucks balls.

http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/105-year-old-frenchman-sets-new-hour-record-gallery/

On Wednesday, the 105-year-old Frenchman set a world record in the 105+ age category - created especially for him - by riding 22.547km during his latest attempt. Marchand thrilled a crowd at the velodrome in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines with his new record, but it's not Marchand's first; he also set the record for the 100+ age category when he covered 26.927km three years ago.

You aren't old till you're dead.

I turn the big three-oh in Feb. I'm basically counting down the days to the end of life as I know it.

I felt like crap growing up due to undiagnosed health issues. Early 30's now, feel awesome 24/7. Yay IIFYM. Yay calisthenics.

I'm knocking on the door of 40. I honestly feel better than I did when I was 25. Diet and regular exercise make a big difference. I don't eat like total shit and am running 30 miles or so a week with some other exercise. I got a ton of gray in my beard. Gray nose hairs. Chest hairs. Hell even pubes are going gray. I'm still in better shape than kids half my age.

We'll see how my 40's go. My Dad says that every decade unlocks a new set of maladies.

Usually this occurs between 30-40. By the time you turn 40 your teeth start going bad, your eyesight starts dimming, and you have problems with high blood pressure and maybe weight gain and diabetes.
Good luck with life.

After you reach 40 even running will cause problems. Your joints dont last long if you keep running as you get older. Need to find other ways to exercise.

Biggest thing as far as aging and running is V02 max starts to diminish rapidly. You also start to lose muscle mass and muscles get less flexible. Keep up with the post workout stretching, yoga routines, and toss in workouts that focus on calves (biggest muscle decliner) and you'll stay ahead of the curve. I'm in the process of picking up a spinning bike that I can use to cross train with. I'll probably transition to doing my threshold and interval workouts to the bike to cut down on wear and tear and keep legs fresher. I can also do longer workouts on the bike to keep my aerobic base up without putting in the additional miles on my feet.

Mid 40's is when I started really feeling it. Got injured a couple times snowboarding and didn't just bounce right back. The injuries led to some weight gain. Now I'm caught in the death spiral. Hoveround starting to look appealing.

My wife is in that spiral @ 36yo. She used to be invincible. Was training for half marathons and got a crispy case of plantar faciitis. She's been unable to run for almost 7 months and the lack of exercise is catching up to her clothing. But since she's heavier now, it's even harder on her feet to try and exercise. That's one of the big reasons I'm picking up a spinning bike. It's a cardio platform for her to burn calories without putting a ton of impact on to her foot.

Good call. I've been eyeballing ergometer. Used to row in college. I tried one out recently and found that it isn't physically painful to spend time doing it.
