What do you mean by "feel old"?

I felt old at 27

In this case I mean I was pretty tired even on weekends and went to bed at a reasonable hour. Very rarely did I want to go out with folks late at night.

It seems 30's is where all the weird medical issues start. Kidney stones starts around that age if I recall. Really not looking forward to that. I'm 30 now. I don't feel old, I don't even feel 30. More like 20. And people think I'm 12. lol.

Overall I think it depends, some people are dealt a better hand than others and have less medial issues and their body ages slower. Genetics etc. Life style plays a role too.

That said, healthwise I don't feel old, but when it actually occurs to me all the years that have gone by and how stuff has changed like technology, then yeah that makes me feel old.

The older I get the more I realize that this isn't an age thing but a personality thing. I've just never been a "going out late" kind of person. At least in the bar/club sense. Introverted personalities get absolutely drained by large/loud/busy crowds. Depending on what sort of week you have and how much you are "on" during the week you're ready to retreat and crash by the weekend.

I agree with that. I never really enjoyed "going out" but I did still have a habit of staying up late either playing games or something like that. After a while though I just wanted enough sleep.

After you reach 40 even running will cause problems. Your joints dont last long if you keep running as you get older. Need to find other ways to exercise.
Just need to switch aerobic sports. I run stairs. Running is an exaggeration, but instead I walk quickly up stairs. Almost zero impact since no one will sustain bringing their knees well above the next stair for very long. Instead, you barely make it above the stair and it ends up being just pure lung/heart workout (with a bit of a calf and glute workout if those are weak muscles for you). Just don't run down the stairs.

My last race was the Sear's Tower. Look at the age brackets of the top racers. 12 of the top 20 were age 40 or older (I suspect it may have been more than 12 since two didn't provide an age):

Note: I bombed that race by going out too fast. I had a coughing fit 10 flights up. Sad Dullard. Maybe next year I can be almost in the top 100 finishers. But certainly not this year.

Even the 70+ age category is often reasonably near the top (39th place and 61st place out of 2511 finishers in 2015):

Just really started to feel old this past year but I was in surgery twice plus 2 other "procedures". What really started me feeling this way was the recovery period from rotator cuff surgery that is keeping me from doing a lot of the gym time I used to. Hard to drive my 6 speed Trans Am due to knees and shoulder also. Im 75 BTW.

Started with my hips in march (inflamed hipped cartelage), then my should in june (couldn't put my right hand over my head for months), and I've been dealing with patellar tendonitis in myu left knee since last September. It SUUUUUCCKS.

I'm 40, play soccer twice a week. My post-game aches and pains now last a day or so after I play. I have to stretch every day for longer to maintain flexibility. I'm also now pretty slow, both off the line and at the top end, when I used to be quick. Endurance has taken a bit of a hit, but not as bad as all that. Still, going up against a team of 25 year olds can be frustrating.

39-40

I could ride my bike around the city greenways pretty fast before that and even on the first ride of the season without working out previously.

Now it's much harder. To do what I could do on my first ride of the season even in my mid to late 30's now I have to work out for a few weeks to start to get into riding shape. It's like I just hit a massive wall.

It depends on a lot of stuff. I was feeling solid till took a hard fall down my basement stairs @ 47 - messed up my back pretty badly. I slowly (though several trips to physical therapy) recovered an was getting ready to return to road biking when I developed seriously bad migraines @ 50. Have put on weight an lost most of my conditioning and developed allot of aches and pains - so for me it was 50. I'm hoping I can get back on my bike trainer this year and then start some basic weight training, so I'm not ready to give up without a fight.

Depends how you took care of it. I played too much football, by 25 my knees felt like they were 60.

That why I switched from running to cycling (and hiking) XD. I ran track and x-country in HS. I do have to give a shout out to a nutritionist who suggested I try Glucosamine/Chondroitin- worked for me.

I seriously hyperextended my leg as a teenager playing football (seriously, if it existed I could have been on Tosh.0) and it made me stop playing and kept me out of the military. It's a good way to get messed up for sure.

Don't know yet. 80?

I've found that a lot of aches and pains that I worry about eventually go away. Both of my hips hurt for about a year and a half. I'm thinking damn, I'm too young to need hip replacement. Then I started paying attention to stretching. Gradually, over a period of about two or three months they became pain free. Same with my Achiles for a long period. Now it's a shoulder. Aches and pains, but they heal.

Hit 30 fairly recently. Still feel the same as before. It'll probably fall off a cliff within a few years though -- fucking assholes I haven't been able to cut off in my life. Probably dead at 40 at this rate. Oh well.

I'm constantly battling age. It started at 25. At 25 all your cells hit G0 and you are officially an adult organism. Any damage from then on out is typically permanent, scar tissue.

So I'm coming up on 30 and still have nicer skin than alot of younger 20's people because I don't drink much, drink herbal teas, haven't had trans fat in appreciable amounts since I was 18, etc. etc. I keep a pretty strict diet. Not alot of meat. Mostly rice, eggs, sometimes chicken. Vegetables, carrots, corn, that kind of thing.

Age is definitely just a number. I see 40 year olds who look like they should be casket shopping and I see fit 50 year olds. You have to take care of yourself.

And thats the thing... the older I get the larger and larger chunk of my time is dedicated to taking care of myself. I feel like its getting ridiculous at 29. So I can't imagine. But then again I hiked 6 miles and only got sore legs like I'm a teen. Health is definitely something valuable to me. I have yet to run into an obstacle that I just cannot overcome because of age.

Its the little things though, chapped lips taking forever to heal.

I really lament getting older. From 25 on out, it is nothing but loss. Ahh the good old days of being able to lift my arm above the shoulder.

I really hope that is never me.
