Don't sweat the aches and pains. It's just validation that you are pushing yourself. The reward is a nice soak in a hot tub with a cold beer or massage at your place of choice. Pain/reward.. pain/reward. It's the cycle of life.

I'm still competing regularly with 18 year olds in soccer/spikeball at the age of 32. I've kept improving my athleticism since high school and I'm in pretty good sports shape. But my shoulders absolutely kill me... I also take multiple days to recover from a soccer match or spikeball tournament. Sometimes I'll pick up an ache that takes weeks to disappear. I had a soccer match a week and a half ago and I still have pain in my left heel. I can't even remember the play that it got hurt. Just noticed when i got out of the car at home that night.

So I can tell I'm getting older. I don't ever plan on feeling old though.

I hit a wall around 30. I was overweight by at least 20-25 lbs. My back started having issues and an old knee injury started to hurt. I also became a type 1 diabetic at 29 and was like WTF...
Since then I started weight lifting, hiking, etc... and the problems went away.
I definitely feel better at 38 then I did at 30. I plan on lifting until I die since my back becomes worse if I do not exercise.

My mom told me it was at about 65 or so she started noticing she couldn't do physical work as long as in her 20s or 30s.

Don't know yet. 80?

I've found that a lot of aches and pains that I worry about eventually go away. Both of my hips hurt for about a year and a half. I'm thinking damn, I'm too young to need hip replacement. Then I started paying attention to stretching. Gradually, over a period of about two or three months they became pain free. Same with my Achiles for a long period. Now it's a shoulder. Aches and pains, but they heal.
Thats what bothers me. They take longer and longer to heal. Three months? Ridiculous!!!

My right hip/back was a little tweaked for 2 weeks at 29 and I thought that was bad. I had to sit down to put on my pants... at 29!!!

But I still maintain an un-frail vibe, I'm not afraid to jump down on my knees and grab a 32-pack of water from the back bottom shelf ya know. I've always had a slender build and I feel like I'm pretty mobile for a 170lb guy.

Stick to that - lift with your legs. Back problems affect a lot of people and can really limit activity. Save your back at all costs!!!

I've always been a spry, on the move guy, but when I turned 43 I noticed things didn't work the way they used to. I'm 46 now and started doing "fatty-grunts" when I get up off a chair...and I'm not fat

Haha, this one hit home. I am a decade older than you and I rolled my ankle playing indoor soccer and I swear it hurt for a month.
The biggest thing for me is my brain outpaces the body now.
having a hard time describing it by typing but my kid will throw the ball and my brain will say "ok, reach out and catch it", and then I watch the ball fly by as I raise my arm. (exaggerated for effect.)
The older you get, the better you were.

IMHO the more intune you are with your body, the sooner you notice the small things. I felt I was getting old in my late 20s when I noticed my recuperation time was getting longer in my mixed martial arts training compared with younger trainees. Now 20+ years later there are more aches and pains and recoupe time keeps getting longer and longer.

You live with it, and keep pushing yourself.

As a 36yo, I'm finding this thread very comforting - knowing that others my age are in the same boat.

At 35, I've noticed a steady but slow decline since about 25. I think I am still well above average physically for my age.
What makes me feel old is that if you go anywhere past 10pm, 85% or more are younger than you. THis is also true of a lot of social events like concerts no matter what the time of day.

It's a sliding/relative scale. At 28, I wished I felt like I did when I was 22. At 35, I think 28 year-old me was stupid to complain about feeling old. In my 40s, I'm sure I'll think 35 year-old me had it good.

After you reach 40 even running will cause problems. Your joints dont last long if you keep running as you get older. Need to find other ways to exercise.
Yep was in the service and ran 15 miles every Monday and Wednesday and 18 to 20 miles on Friday.... over the 2 years at that station it took it's toll! I felt a slow down in life at 38, 44 and 46. Although at 46 I was diagnosed with diabetes type 1 so that had something to do with that it think. Now I'm 50 with a 2 and 4 year old and I feel old/slow every day

Do you mean type 2? Type 1 is childhood diabetes (or so I thought).

YMMV
I've routinely dealt with 300-1500 lb objects at work (electrician) for years, gonna be 40 late next year. Osteoarthritis/bone spurs in my vertebrae, stenosis, numbness, tennis elbow, hands hurt quite often. Not sure if it was the chicken or the egg 1st, but heavy work made me a tank or genetics made me able to take on heavy work. My advice is don't do it, take care of yourself because you only get one 'you'.

No type 2 is normally from being overweight type one is because your pancreas stops making insulin. It can happen anytime in life but you are normally safe after 30… but I got it at late in life lucky me.

Had a somewhat bad car accident at 29, has been downhill from there for me. Stuff hurts for no real reason. I'm not all that fit, and I know that's part of the problem but the amount of effort I have to put into staying fit is about as bad as not being fit.

30 here. Knee hurts every day, ankles permanently swollen. Can't do leg day anymore, and I can barely ride my bike to work twice a week. Still do soccer once a week, used to do it three times a week. It catches up quick when you stop.

Yes, only one you.

A combination of both genetics and work. Don't regret working hard. Office workers fall apart from within and physical workers fall apart structurally. If you were an office worker you'd probably be an overweight diabetic who gets out of breath climbing the stairs no matter your diet.

Around 40 the eyesight got bad enough that reading glasses were mandatory for anything closer than 3 feet. That made me feel old more than anything else, including all the aches and pains, so I'd have to say 40.

By 50 I was feeling old and tired all the time and realized I had let myself get really out of shape. Lost weight, got more active and ran a couple of half marathons and a full marathon at 54. I'm still getting old but I feel better now than I did 10 years ago so my advice to avoid feeling old is stay as active as you can for as long as you can.

After I got LASIK I was told by 40 I'll need reading glasses. Not looking forward to that. It's going to come fast. Maybe by then they'll have tech to fix that. Either way I'd be stuck with glasses if I had not gotten the surgery so it was not really a waste. It basically bought me 10 years of freedom from needing glasses.
