I'm happy with my current vehicle and don't plan on getting another car for many years.

Having 2 cars for one person in the city is just throwing money in a hole. In a few more years the parking space the car sits in will be worth more than the car itself.

i won't get something "nice" until my wife's car is paid off, 3-5 years from now, so i'll be about 44-46 , if things go well/according to plan

my current car is 1997 saturn sc-1 with 161K miles, runs like a top though and gets 34+ MPG

before i graduated college, i said I was going to get a 2001 M3 when I landed my first real time job.

then when I got a real job, I realized how awesome not having a car payment was so I just rode my car to the ground.

recently i got a car that I really enjoyed and have always liked. it's a 2003 20th anniversar edition GTI. i found one in great condition and only paid $15K for it. i have a monthly payment but it's only $260/mo for 4 years.

i'm really glad that i don't have like a $600 car payment on a BMW that is pricey as hell to maintain. it just wouldn't be reasonable at this stage to get a car like that.

I will never "reward" myself with a car.
A car is simply an appliance to get from one place to another. Saving up a bunch of money to buy an overpriced car is simply making me poor and making someone else rich.

I'm 27 and I drive a '94 Dodge Dakota 4x4 with 140,000 miles (I bought it last summer for $2850). Last summer, I sold my '93 Dodge Dakota 4x4 with 213,000 miles (that I bought three years ago for $3650), and I plan to drive the '94 just as far. I enjoy not having a car payment and the insurance for my '94 Dakota is just $320 per year for full coverage.

I very nearly got a new car a couple months ago, but decided not to. I'm finally at a point in my life where income is significantly outpacing expenses, and I didn't want to throw that off with a car payment. There are more worthwhile things to spend my money on at the moment.

I got my Audi when I was 26. I would have been better off putting a down payment on a house with that money, though!

Unless I am making enough money to take care of all my future families needs without having them have to worry about finances, why would I buy an expensive car?

If I win the lottery or something like that, yeah sure, I may get a luxury sedan, but that is about it.

20 years old. I purchased a 2001 Lincoln LS V8. Sticker price was $40k.

I never went to college, I just work smarter not harder.

This year I am looking to purchase an S-Class Merc. Some jerk came through a red light and plowed me. Ouch.

I want a nice house, don't really care so much about cars. We got a new Elantra last year, and compared to the sh|tboxes we were both driving before its like a fvcking lexus anyway.

My car's radio doesn't even work.

Well, if you have enough money, well then, good for you. I personally, would rather buy a reliable moderately priced sedan and save the rest of the moeny up for my future family, and then splurge it on them on some nice vacation or something.

I am 38 and have never spent more than $13k for a car. If I wanted to reward myself, it would not be with a depreciating asset.

BINGO!
Thats EXACTLY what I was about to say. I even spent 13 grand myself.
Why the hell would someone get a "reward" of an exponentially depreciating item with all sorts of ungodly fees and upkeep?
Very stupid.
You should not get an expensive car unless you're rich and can buy it outright. Then its not a car, its a toy.

Mid 30's and never had a new car, much less a nice car. Still driving a '93 pre-owned Ford that I'll keep as long as the yearly repair costs are much less than new-car payments. Figure I'll wait until retirement for a nice car. Until then, I just don't have the disposable income to waste.

I bought a 99 Aurora last year at 23. It wasn't a very expensive car and certainly isn't a reward for myself but it's still very nice. I figure I've got another 3-4 years before I'll be able to buy the car that I really want which at this point is a brand new Dodge Charter R/T AWD.

Fifty this year and never owned a nice car, and I never will. I'm not impressed by expensive toys.
I do drive a late model truck thats well maintained, and I'll drive it until there is nothing left then buy a new one.
