she is right.

i agree with the grandmother. in my opinion having a separte event for a mom and a dad is just wrong and crushes a kid when they dont have that and have to sit in the room watching classmates spend time with the parent they dont have. To me that is cold and heartless and in my opinion the school should combine the events. to one day to something like "morning with your parent"

It is a bit of a shot at them yeah.

"drive to school in your daddy's mercedes day"
"iPod day"
"STD-free day"

The event would be only a shell of its former self without a direct reference to an unhealthy breakfast item and some alliteration. What about Potato Pancakes with a Parent or Frittatas with Family or Chilaquiles with Children?

To add to this, my co-workers wife tutors students. He heard how the student was told:
"That he was self-sabotaging himself, for fear of success" And the kid used this excuse to my co-workers wife, when they didnt past the quiz she gave him!

What are schools stuffing in kids heads these days, FEAR OF SUCCESSS? Thats why they dont understand Algebra? Come on..

I am sure the school would have no problem if a mom/gramma/uncle/family friend came in place of the girl's father. I have personally been in this situation and nothing was said. This was back in the 80's when we didn't shield the little snowflakes from reality.

I'm not really sure where the high school part of your statement came from.

My point is that no kid has everything. Its seeing their differences and learning how to deal with them that will really help the kid in the real world.

My kid's elementary has the same thing. They actually will bar mom's who try to sneak into Donuts for Dads. I have no problem with it.

PC isn't even PC. The whole concept is fucking ignorant and went off the deep end right when it started.

Being PC like what is being described in the OP is a way for people to deny reality. We don't have to think about the painful truths in our lives when we can remove everything that might remind us of them. That which is true must always be borne. I don't like the thought of a crying child any more than the next person, but not having a father is something she'll have to live with for the rest of her life. The world will not always rearrange itself to keep her from thinking about it.

The school these girls go to (I think it's private, not that it matters) doesn't have any Christmas stuff. They have winter celebration. They don't have Valentines day. They don't do forth of July.

I'm not sure I can take the word of a guy who can't spell 4th (fourth).

I don't think its something that needs to be changed, but I do remember that my K-5 schools would always have grandparents day and it kinda sucked to not have anyone there or one of my parents instead.

At any point, did the grandmother talk to the child about the situation? Come on, do some parental duties if you got custody. Plus no kid is going to be laughing at her and calling her names because her dad isn't there. Besides the grandmother should step up and make it "IHOP with grandma day" or some other cool shit! If not having a father truly bothers her, then maybe she needs to see a counselor at the school or something.
