At what price will you buy an SSD?

Price per gigabyte anyways.

I'm thinking $0.50/gig is when I'll start taking it seriously. Also they need to have at least the speeds of the latest and greatest of now with no real issues.

I paid $120 for a 30gb vertex so I guess my number is $4 a gb. Lol.

I've got enough now that I'll only look at $1 a gb or lower from now on.

I'm curious, what is the most satisfying part of owning the SSD though? I don't boot up very often. (Once a month? Getting out of sleep mode is fast in Windows 7 already) So I don't really notice the booting time stuff... Loading games is usually just a few seconds. Idk. What do you see it most in I guess? Mind you, I am even using a 2-3 year old Western Digital GP 5400RPM 1TB HDD for everything. :/

Speed in access of files, speed in loading applications, speed in moving files, speed installing applications and games. speed in over all productivity. Are we sensing a theme here.

Get an ssd use it for a month then stop using it. I guarantee you'll punch your grandma to get your ssd back.

Ha, that is soooo true. Every time I have to use another PC, I die a little inside It feels sooooooo slow compared to mine.

EDIT: Paid $2.35/GB (1500DKK for my 120GB G2).

until you use an ssd, you won't fully appreciate the speed they offer. if you were to use an ssd then go back to that caviar green, then you'd really see what you're missing out on.

I paid $1.74 per GB with the Force60GB Corsair 2 weeks ago. Now the price is jumped up though. Was worth every cent

I've never calculated cost per GB before buying anything RAM related...maybe I should start

For me, the biggest difference is multitasking. You can use your computer at full speed while virus scanning or copying large files. I went from an 80gb ssd to a 500gb hybrid drive in my work laptop, and I really miss the SSD.

I'm waiting for $1/GB to further invest in an SSD

Yeah.. I don't do virus scanning or copy large files. :/ Even if I do copy large files, it's never going to be my hard drive that's the bottle neck unless I am doing a copy on the hard drive itself.

I paid 3.90 at the highest once.

It was fast, but really not worth it to me. Yea they are faster but not THAT great, went back to pladders after trying a few SSDs. Don't miss them.

When they cost the same as platter drives is when I will try it again, that and they are bigger.

$1 per gig for me also. If I can get a good brand drive of 250g or so for about $250, I'll buy.

Can't seem to get my head around a drive smaller than that.

For my (lossless FLAC) music server I need a 500 GB drive, for that I'm waiting for at most 0.75/GB.

For my gaming PC, I don't mind an extra second to load a level for my current E8400 system. Next time I upgrade I'll be using a SSD boot drive though. So the current $1.50?/GB is fine for that.

I'll at least consider a SSD for my next work PC, at whatever the price is then.

I bought a Vertex 120GB for $250 two years ago. It's all about the timing of the deals.

+1. I paid $3/GB 2 years ago, most expensive part in my rig. No regrets.

Though my next one will have to be at least double the capacity at 1/2 the price. I don't need the performance to be any faster as this Vertex 1 is already 10x more responsive than any mechanical HDD and I probably won't notice any increase above that.

I like the idea of doing away completely with mechanical HDD's on my next build and having a smaller case, as having one or two 2.5" SSD's takes up almost no room compared to a 3.5" mechanical drive on top of being quiet and almost no heat.

My main target is to see two years of demonstrated reliability. Then I have a price target of $0.65/GB. Until then, I'm not in a hurry.

$1.90 a gig, what I paid for the first one, as I'd gladly do it all over again -- though I'm with Corky on the long-term reliability thought.

time is money. the amount of time i've saved outweighs any costs. they pay for themselves 10x over a very short period of time

I paid around $2.75/GB back in June 2009 for mine and it has been worth it. I would consider buying one for my work laptop if I could get one for around $1/GB.

Perhaps . . . but not when you are retired.
