I wonder how long they are going to be able to hold off nerfing the heroics. While they may be tuned fine once everyone is decked out in purp, even the easier ones seem to be tooth extraction worthy if doing a random.

If they are going to change them they should make them harder, not easier. It takes maybe 30-40 hours to gear up. Probably in the 20's if you got lucky on drops. If you quested in the right zone you have the rep to buy the correct tabbards and you're picking up good blues, JP rewards, epics, head/shoulder enchant, enchanting materials, gold, as well as a crafted item or two purchased with all that gold. You only have to win 5 games a week to pick up epic weapons in 1-2 weeks. You can buy PvP gear with honor that is viable for raiding for many classes. I'll admit that in 277 gear heroics were ugly, but they were supposed to be. Just look at the amount of stam you gain. In 333 gear they're not hard and in a mix of epics and 346 gear they're face roll and you can aoe pull just about everything. If you're pugging heroics then it's time to find a guild so that you are at least only partially pugging. If you're going to pug a heroic you should consider getting people into vent and be prepared to use CC and wipe a handful of times. You should also be prepared to read up on the mechanics if you don't know them since most deaths aren't really because the heroic is hard but because you don't know or understand a vital mechanic. Stonecore is a perfect example of this. I'd much rather they make the heroics harder over time or at least keep them the same so that they aren't too boring when alts go through them. The game has to have some replay value and nerfing heroics makes the game boring. It's nice to once again be able to run heroics and not one shot every boss by AOE pulling everything and smashing buttons and it's nice to enter raids where 7 bosses don't die the first night.

This doesn't really seem like the "right" thread but it's hopefully close enough.

My fps blow raiding 25 mans. 12 fps is no fun and I have all the settings at fair or lower (I can't set them higher).

Are there any reviews that test WOW? Some solid personal recommendations? From previous upgrades it seems to be far more CPU dependent than GPU so the 2500K has caught my eye. I'm currently on some aging hardware and am considering a complete upgrade but really want to see what kind of performance increase I'd get. It would be nice to get full FPS and have the graphics cranked up. It's probably time for a faster boot drive as well since I think I've had this thing for 7 years.

E6400
4 Gigs of memory on some old Gigabyte board
GTX 260 (running 1920x1200 on a Dell 24")
Raptor 74GB
Antec TruePower TP-750 Blue

No reviews really test WoW in a raid setting, because it's nearly impossible. The reviews tend to cover controlled and repeatable tests if anything. What I'd look into first is what exactly causes your terrible framerate. Is it during all parts of raiding or just during things like lots of fire on the screen or other similar effects?

It's also good to look at the fact that you're playing in 1920x1200, which is a fairly high resolution. You have things set fairly low already because of this.

I built a new machine around a 2500K with a Radeon 6950 and things do seem to be a bit better than with my old i7-860.

This new PC has a 6950 and that doesn't happen to me as I had a YouTube video playing last night when I was too lazy to open a networked drive .

humm, i singled out the card because it was the only things thats changed recently. i do find it off that whatever the issue it only effects FF and Opera

i guess ill just deal with it for now, its close to SSD time for me and ill just do a reinstall

have you tried playing at 1680x1050?

i know its not the native res of your 24 bt itll most likely help. Puching 1920x1200 even in wow takes some juice

when i went from a 22in mon to a 24 in mon on my old E8400 @4ghz and a GTX 285 i noticed a pretty massive premance hit

you can verify that performance hit on a 24 by starting the game on windowed, then after everything has loaded check you FPS. then hit the maximize window button on the window frame and watch the fps drop.

at least we didn't get totally screwed

•Fel Armor has been redesigned. It now surrounds the caster with fel energy, increasing spell power and causing the warlock to be healed for 3% of any single-target spell damage he or she deals.

It is possible it could be a problem with the card or a bad driver install. I mean, to give you an idea... I had a somewhat similar issue awhile back with a nVidia card. If I tried to play any video with WoW open, my PC would freeze up. I'm pretty certain it was a defective card since none of the drivers ever fixed it no matter how "clean" I got the system.

But if you want to, you could always try one of those driver cleaner tools or I guess just use Chrome . Firefox has honestly been kind of troublesome for me too lately. The browser loves to get really crappy if you leave a bunch of tabs open. I've had it use around 700mb+ of memory on quite a few occasions. I actually had to use Chrome at times with Netflix, because Firefox would have this terrible second-long freezing problem with any video if I left it open for awhile.

Is there a site that can load toons or gear/spec and get a theoretical dps value?

My destro lock is at ilvl 338 and wanted to know if I'm close to the dps I can pull.

- why do all the Horde gather just outside of the Tol Borad bridge? I heard of some bug that lets you get the credit for a win if you stand there (and you couldn't get in via Q)? I also heard it might have been fixed?

- when's the patch going in?

Others just want to smash face, have a good time, and collect loot. There will always be more of the 2nd group than the first group.

LOL. That sounds so lazy and boring to me. I would suggest those people stick to regular dungeons to 'smash face' and 'collect loot'. Those are exactly the type of people who make LFD groups more frustrating for everyone else.

I really enjoyed the challenge of heroics at the beginning. Now that they are so much easier with better gear and knowledgeable players I am enjoying the challenge of the heroic achievements.

How is doing the same heroic for the umpteenth time any exciting? After doing it a few times, I'd rather just save the hassle of doing "another long heroic" and roflstomp the whole thing. Just remember... we're going to be doing these heroics all throughout Cataclysm since items will always shift to lower point types with each new raid tier. Hopefully with everyone in 359 epics, we'll be able to easily go through heroics .

i thought they fixed that? of havent they figured out how yet?

but yea you can run onto the bridge so you are in the "Battle Zone" and if you time it right you get the honor and the Win. you have to time it so you are there when you win and before you get ported back to org for not being in the raid.

i didn it once simply because i wanted the victory cheive and i never got into the damn thing

Now I can see why people don't like Stonecore. 10+ wipes on each boss is not my definition of fun.

Exactly. IMO a game is much more fun when it is challenging and involves some sense of accomplishment. Sleep walking through heroics mashing buttons is not fun, is not a challenge, and has no sense of accomplishment at the end.

It's not. I believe I addressed that in my second paragraph. Now that heroics are getting easier it is nice to try the achievements for an extra challenge. I'm sure once those are done it will be boring. What I am saying is, the current difficulty levels provide a refreshing challenge. And don't worry, within a month of two we will all be 'roflstomping' through all of the heroics.

Well, the thing about that is, most of the achievements aren't that hard. Some of them are harder than others and maybe only 2-3 are considered hard, but most are easy and might just require a wipe to do. MMOC has a decent guide on how to do them.

Yeah some of them just happen ("Ready for Raiding" for example), and others take some work. I still have about a dozen left to do, but the one that took us the longest to do so far was "I hate that song". We tried a couple different methods, but for some reason one snake would always respawn 8 or 9 seconds into channeling the lever and interrupt it. Everything else so far only took 1 to 3 shots, but it was still more fun with the added challenge.

Isn't "I hate that song" a bit easier if you have say... a Shaman healer and he just stands on the bridge healing and once you're done, he can just wind shock the boss?

The harder ones that I know of are probably Arrested Development (easier with two healers or two tanks), Headed South and probably Pardon Denied.

The hardest part of any of them is trying to do them in PUGs .

Those three are all on the to-do list, so I don't have any info on them yet.

For I hate that song we tried it the first couple times without looking up any strats which probably didn't help. In the end we had 2 DKs in the group (one was tank) so we just threw down a DnD on each lever before the other dps jumped down on each side to pull them. The tank grabbed adds when they got to the top. We didn't kill the adds so they wouldn't respawn at the bottom for the second time, but for some reason, one snake always took a lot more damage than the others and died anyway.

The hardest part of any of them is trying to do them in PUGs .
