When are they getting rid of the stupid sound when you hit play with the launcher? So annoying.

You can also turn the launcher off at the login screen. It's in the lower-left I believe. I also never use the launcher, I don't see the point.

I just PUG healed heroic DM as my first heroic heal on my shammy... Never did the normal so i had to learn on the fly. That shit took hours, kind of nerve-racking, but now I feel I can do most heroics easily... Even got something off Vanessa at the end. Fun instance overall but I don't think I can sit through it all again.

What do you guys think about healers/healing so far? Watching my mana and having to let dps stay a bit lower health really tests our skill and knowledge of what to use and when as far as combos. I find it a lot more fun than my rogue main. how are other healers doing? there is so much conflicting thoughts on resto shammys I'm all over the map with gems and reforges.

My main is a resto druid. First few heroics I found myself being dumb and trying to pop rejuvs on everyone...bad wotlk habit. Now that I have all 346+ and some T11 gear, healing really isn't that difficult. Its all about getting used to the new style....using the mana efficient heals that your class has. DPS knowing fights helps a lot too.

One thing that you can let your tanks know is that avoidance > stam in this expansion. Our MT had a great saying, "Having 180k hp and no avoidance just means it takes you an extra few seconds to die."

this is true, we don't even bother CCing in heroics anymore, once you get some epics or even just heroic gear it all becomes much easier

the first few heroics we did our healers were drinking after like each pull, now its just chain pull till the boss

was in a pug the other day with a paly tank who was gemming all stam and the healer was giving him shit for it cause he was nearly impossible to heal

Just hit 85 on my prot paladin last night. I basically have mostly blues from quest rewards, dungeon drops, and some honored rep rewards. There is nothing there that will help in pvp however. Should I go ahead and just grab the bloody pyrium 339 set and pre-gear that way while I grind some honor in BG's and TB? I hate being a 5th wheel in battles and like to at least be able to cause some chaos; albeit in small quantities .

I like tanking and have some experience tanking the Cata dungeons but sometimes just love to be the meat-grinder rather than the meat-shield. I have ret as my off-spec but I'm just not liking the dps I'm getting from it. I've got good gear (quest rewards, some crafted stuff, and rep rewards) but just cannot break the 4k dps barrier...I think rotation is my biggest issue but I just can't seem to get a good mechanic going that produces solid dps that would be beneficial in a raid. Due to this, I've been finding myself more and more staying in my main-spec vs. going into ret. One group leader in a PUG told me to switch to my ret-spec for damage. I said, "Sure but I can get just about as much dps from prot *AND* provide some emergency off-tanking if required. Your choice." He said I had 10 secs to switch or I'd be kicked...it was my last run of the day and I had spent 30 mins in queue so I switched and finished out the instance.

I certainly don't gem full stamina, but anyone would be a fool to think you don't need a decent health pool. I wanted to get around 150k or so HP with buffs before I stopped worrying as much about HP. I also want to use one stamina trinket and one avoidance trinket for that nice mixture (although, I wouldn't mind having two of each at my disposal so I can switch if I want).

I have 142k HP unbuffed at the moment. Although, one problem I have is that the only blue quality gem cut that I know on my Shaman is the pure stamina gem . I've mostly been buying meta gems since you can usually fall back on green quality gems if you don't have the blue quality cut, but for metas, you'd have to fall back to WotLK recipes.

I should probably at least buy the Parry/Stamina and Mastery/Stamina cut though... especially since I've been having to use Agility/Stamina for red slots because you aren't taught dodge/stamina or parry/stamina for green quality gems.

I have ret as my off-spec but I'm just not liking the dps I'm getting from it. To be honest, giving up on Ret and just using Prot as DPS isn't going to help your performance as Ret . The one thing to take in mind is that you want to use up your HPx3 (whether it be through Hand of Light or actual HPx3) as soon as you can. At this point, also consider that pretty much all DPS abilities that you use can generate HP with a 40% chance, except CS, which has a 100% chance. So you'll want to always use CS above any other ability... although, I'm not sure if that counts when you can use Hammer of Wrath.

Try to keep a priority like this...

HoL+TV / HPx3+TV > CS > HoW > AoW+Exo > Judgment > HW

Then there's making sure you're using your CDs efficiently. Remember that Zealotry will essentially make it so after every CS, you will use a Templar's Verdict as each CS will grant 3 HP. In that case, you will have a fairly static rotation. Also remember that during Avenging Wrath, you are allowed to use HoW regardless of HP. Also, don't forget Blessing of Ancient Kings.

I know this is common sense for some of you guys, but perhaps some of the newer players could find some value...

The old/proven rule for Tanks is to look at <Big Nasty Boss's Big Nasty Attack>, then work on achieving enough HP/Mitigation to survive being hit by it twice with a little cushion of life left that a good healer could still save your bacon. That allows a GDC here and there for your healers to make up for movement, Fkuc Ups, short lapses in attention, and/or the need/ability to toss a heal on a raid member without worrying about you dropping. Once there, Stam is no longer as high a priority and you could/should work on avoidance so you're less of a mana sponge, and threat (if necessary).

Stam and armor is great because it's always there (like a good steady salary). As long as you manage the encounters to work within that boundary (through CC, intelligent use of game mechanics, etc), then in theory you're always GTG. Sh*t does happen though.... So you want to stretch your Hit Point Salary. which brings us to:

I've always thought of avoidance like a bonus: It can really save your ass when you get it at the right time. You hardly notice it when times are good. More is generally better, since you have more frequent opportunity to cash in a freebie when that's all you have left. But it has a nasty habit of NOT being there when you really need it. And depending on it makes for very erratic "income". So, from a healer's perspective, it looks like your fine... fine.. fine.. then OMGWTF HE DROPPED IN 5 SECONDS. All because the RNG gods decided you were going to be flat footed for a little while.

*****

What I've done with the above:

At the moment, we seem to have decent HP (I'm a little under 150K, unbuffed, as a Warrior. Up to 171 raid buffed/flasked, depending on trinkets), but avoidance is really low compared to WoTLK. Therefore, Avoidance is a bit more valuable than HP. So I'm gemming for socket bonuses with mixed Stam/Avoidance gems. I'm not reforging Mastery into Avoidance, but I do favor avoidance over mastery if the choice presents itself. My understanding is that by the time we are T11 geared, Mastery will be relatively more valuable. Just that in Blues we aren't quite to that point yet.

My $0.02, anyways...

Late to get to 85 and now working on my pvp honor set. I missed out on the Tol Barad 1800 honor wins so it's extremely slow going. Sucks incredibly.

Yeah the 1800 trade that servers were doing was completely obnoxious when you compare it to the options now available to you. Cashing in on that was insane for anyone who wanted to gear up quickly.

Large handicap to those now wanting to do the same.

Funny thing is, even with that 1800 crap, tb was still fucked on my server. When I was up late on weekends and logged in I'd hear about raid group size sub 20 in there with half a dozen guildies or more talking about being in queue still. Some were trying to game the event by entering the area just as the battle was won but not too soon to try and avoid getting knocked out so you'd still be in to trigger the personal stats. Ah the joy of wow pvp.

Anyone with some input on my question here about the bloody pyrium 339 set or waiting and relying on possible drops or BG HP grinding?

Thanks in advance...good advice on Ret rotation by the way...I'll look at what I'm doing vs. what you have there.

most of our guys just started grinding for gear to get to the heroic cap and then ground more for gear and rep, those with crafting profs made some things, Justice point gear is pretty easy to get with grinding as well, if you were capped when wrath hit you can pick up 2 items the second you hit 85

It really depends on how quickly you can grind. If you think it's going to take you a VERY long time, I'd just buy the inexpensive pieces on the AH, or any pieces with optimal stats (on my server, gloves/pants/chest were all ~600-700g tops), and grind the other pieces.

Also, pro tip for winning BGs: if you have a healing offspec, use it. Find the best player in the battleground, and heal him. I've won/controlled COUNTLESS bgs, just because someone got smart and decided to heal me.

So would elitistjerks forums be a good reference as to how to "re-spec" your gear [haste, mastery, etc]? The last time I ran my healbot was in WOTLK a few years ago - Int/Spir/Haste was king back then - however - so many changes now it's a bit mind boggling.

what % avoidance are tanks seeing? I had 180k flasked on my bear, about 32% avoidance average (27-28 after DR)

stacking agility would get me into the 40's ,but with DR that only gives me 30... so stamina is pretty much the best EH stat for bears even after the soft survival cap. i've heard bears getting into WotLK avoidance levels at softcap health, but that's in BiS gear

Ok so mostly heroic gear helps, but what kind of stats are on it? More spirit? Do people reforge? I'm reading mastery for resto shammies (deep healing) is completely useless. Int is obviously is above all but what about regen while in combat? 5 second rule? Any of that apply anymore? I throw a few big heals cause the tank is down to 50% after taking like 2 shots and I'm quickly out of mana within 30-60 seconds... can't even do some boss fights cause the dps take some good damage too, despite me trying to avoid healing them too much.

Last quest in Vash... defending the rift where you ride the boat... is it still bugged? I'm sitting in the boat, NPCs suddenly disappear and I'm left to drown while in the boat. Re-took the quest and same thing.

Took me about 10 retries for it to work right.

so here's a question, the other day i realized it was somewhat stupidi to get rid of all my frozen orbs as I still had another tailor that would need the rug pattern. so I remember today while at the AH and check for a price and was happy to see a couple for just 5g. before buying i hopped on over the the frozen orb vendor to check if he had any other patterns or if I just needed for the tailor...and I see no patterns. so my question is does he still have the rug one or not (assuming if he does it's only then visible to a char with tailor as the one I just checked didn't have it?)
