Cho'gall is a bit of a DPS race in p3. Do you have a high number of plate DPS or something? Are you not killing the eye stalks and suffering bad output from the -75% debuff that they put on you?

We were lacking gear to boost the dps of people higher when needed. Also, having two ranged dps and someone's alt for the adds there is not ideal. This past week we got a boomkin to raid and got him some gear (trinket from Atramedes and OH from Halfus) along with a new hunter that came from a 12/12 guild. We have four ranged dps for the fight this week hopefully.

Interesting that your hunter is running Marksman spec and doing so well. I had thought all hunters had given up on Marksman and migrated over to Survival.

Marks is theoretically the highest single target dps spec for hunters at the moment. they scale like physical melees though so they don't really shine unless they have full raid buffs like in a 25m situation then they are about 2k ahead of SV or so. SV is still competitive in a 10m setting and can be in a 25 as well but 4.0.6 really brought MM back to the forefront.

We finally killed Nefarian last night, but unfortunately... I cannot get the cool mount because I'm only revered with my guild . That bastard also didn't drop my axe!

Took quite a few tries:
http://www.worldoflogs.com/reports/kmbfmvm649zm7e5w/

I'm workin' on a video, but I need to get a good idea for a precursor part... I have a few decent ideas, but one I can't do since I deleted all previous footage. I thought about putting almost a quick flashing montage of wiping plus some sort of uplifting but strong remark (like Sammy J's line in Snakes on a Plane). My other idea is interesting and actually involves real life footage .

Grats on the Nef kill.

That fight discourages melee to even be in the room which is pathetic. Some of the mechanics are just stupid.

I did see a strat where a guild used one tank, three healers and six dps. We have been going with two tanks, two healers and six dps.

Any other shamans notice how bad the AI is on Searing Totem? I recall a few attempts on Nefarian that I had to replant the totem because it simply would not attack. I believe it was usually in the beginning on Onyxia.

That reminded me of a conundrum that I've been beset with for a bit... the GCD on Call of the Elements vs a totem's 1s GCD. I could have sworn that I heard CotE had a 1.5s GCD, but I couldn't find anything to tell me. So I went through and FRAPS'd a video of me dropping the multiple totems and using VirtualDub, I could compare the milliseconds easily between when the GCD started and ended. It's definitely 1.5s :\. That means I've been hampering my DPS slightly by being lazy and hitting ALT+2 instead of 6.

Not sure if you mean Cho'gall or Nefarian, but the only disadvantage that we have on Nefarian is phase 2. We decided to use one crackle during phase 2 to help lower the amount of time we'd spend kiting during phase 3, because it seemed that the more time we spent... the harder it became (less CDs available as you end up using them all, etc). Well, you'll notice on the chart for the kill, that my DPS went incredibly low (~4-5k) at one point and stayed there for awhile. That was actually during phase 2 after the mob on my pillar was dead. I could only use Lightning Bolt and Unleash Elements on Nefarian :\.

With Cho'gall, the problematic part with melee is probably phase 2 with the eye stalks. There's a huge advantage to not having breaks in DPS and melee having to move around is never great. If the ranged is close enough, a simple switch in target is sufficient.

I meant Cho'gall for the least amount of melee possible would be nice.

If anyone is bored enough to watch me staring at a dragon's ass for awhile... here's a Nefarian kill video.

http://www.aikouka.com/Nefarian 10N.mp4 (~600MB)

I wouldn't mind a bit of advice on encoding. I've used Sony Vegas for awhile, but I've noticed that it does an awful job at encoding. I always see lines in my videos in areas with a lot of movement (such as my character). That's why there's no text or anything in the video. I did have some text in Sony Vegas, but I gave up when the video output looked terrible. I literally told Vegas to render only the audio, then I built a MKV using the raw video and the audio track created by Vegas. Then I used Handbrake to encode using x264.

There's also a problem with Vegas... it flat out refuses to encode anything higher than 1080p, and I play on a 1920x1200 monitor!

Any advice for making this easier? I never ran into some of these problems before, because I used to use smaller 1680x1050 monitor.

Anyone familiar with Warrior tank mechanics? I use the Mr. Robot optimizer to optimize my warrior the other day, and I went from about 10.5% dodge / 14.5% parry / 47.5 mastery to 11.5/13.5/51 respectively. However, after using the optimizer and reforging/gemming as necessary, my expertise went from 26 to 18. I suppose I'm not worried about threat due to vengeance, but losing that much expertise makes me nervous about initial pulls (My hit is somewhere like 1.8% I believe also). Thoughts?

EDIT: I found the website at EJ about the 11th page in on the tanking guide after their discussion on avoidance and some lengthy number crunching they were doing. I got rid of a LOT of stamina (I lost about 8k health) when I re-gemmed...

Hopefully you have a rogue/hunter who can help with that. Otherwise just have your taunt button ready.

Stam really isn't that valuable anymore unless you are doing heroic modes.

I could ask him if you want to know why he's playing Marks instead of Survival.

Regardless of why he is running M, he’s doing top notch DPS. I’ve started to see more diversity in what people are running. The Hunter on my server with the top gear score is running Beast Master, the second is running Marksman. Still the majority of the ‘Raiding” hunters appear to be Survival.

If you are the main tank and the Hunter or Rogue isn’t helping you set agro on the initial pull they are not doing their jobs. If you aren’t running with either a Hunter or a Rogue in the group it’s going to be harder to establish immediately. I see a lot of groups that won’t wait a few seconds to let the tank establish which drives me, and I’m sure the tank, nuts.

Hopefully after the initial pull you have sunders running, or expose armor or some other de-buff on the mob to help compensate

http://stateofdps.com/ shows Marksman ahead of Survival by about 2k.

The curent wisdom is Mastery Uber Alles, though in my experience in the current and past iterations of the game is that "Current Wisdom" only goes so far. You'll still need to accumulate Stam pieces for Heroic Modes and +Hit pieces for interrupt duty, and the like. Arms is my off spec, so I swap trinkets/belt around and can get to 7 and a half~ish percent on +Hit when I need to.

My Expertise and hit are pretty low in my regular tanking gear at only a few % each, and I don't have threat issues aside from the first few moments. Just be ready to taunt if you need if, like my guild, all your DDs like to pop their cooldowns up front. Vigilance the other tank for faster/greater Vengeance stacking and infinite Taunt refreshes. After the first 10~15 seconds, Threat isn't a problem.

Talking from the DPS point of view the “Pop everything up front” method is usually a stupid thing to do. I know some people are hoping their cool down will be over for a second pop before the end of a fight so they hit it at the start but I still like to see the tank get established first.

Our 10 man group has a rogue and a hunter (me).
Except in rare situations our rogue is constantly working Tricks into his rotation and I am doing the same with Misdirect. If any of our DPS pulls a mob off the main tank on an initial pull that’s on the DPS and he hears about it from the RL. The one exception is when the Boomkin, who is the Main Tank’s RL Father, deliberately tries to piss off the MT by pulling agro off him. Believe it or not it’s actually pretty funny when he does it; usually on trash mob pulls to spice things up a bit.

Hmm I tried that Mr. Robot thing on my Shaman and wow... it's failtacular. It might be good if you have stats that have no caps, but a Shaman certainly should take caps into account. My current setup has me at 17.03% spell hit and 6 expertise rating over the cap... which is pretty darned close on both accounts.

Mr. Robot put me at 25 expertise and 2.2% over the spell hit cap... what a waste.

It also gave me a very odd gem change. I have a 20 agi / 20 hit gem in my Tunic of Failed Experiments, because it has a 20 agi socket bonus (so I don't lose any agility). Well, Mr. Robot told me to put a 67 agi gem in that slot and put a 40 agi gem in my gloves, which currently have the JC gem in them .

Yeah, I think I'll stick with chardev and do all the work on my own like usual.

We have people that like to pull off the Ony tank on the Nefarian fight. If you watch the video and are wondering why I wait so long to drop down, it's because there's no point in me being down there until Ony is in position anyway. Normally I have levitate as well, so it takes a little longer for me to fall .

Well i finally left my guild. I wasn't on but planned on coming back during the summer, but recent events changed that. I just wasn't a good fit socially anymore, so i think I'm just gonna throw in the towel with the game overall.

2) Can I have your gold?

After doing some initial tests from my re-gemming/forging from using Mr. Robot, my incoming damage is WAY smoother. I ran a few heroics and every healer told me it was almost boring to heal me as my damage (even from AoE tanking) was going down at a very linear rate. The only thing that sucks is when Rogues/Hunters go ape shit on initial pulls when they see me charge as I lose aggro to the target that's not my main target.

Still don't know why people refuse to use the "assist" button...

I'm trying to gear up a shadowpriest for raids. Haven't played much since BC but i noticed a lot of mechanics have changed. What should be the optimal hit rating? should it be capped or can other stats take some space? personally i think priority should be int -> crit -> mastery -> haste but any advice will be appreciated.

just put those skull targets on mobs before pulls. it's universally understood that those should be put down first.

Oh I do that all the time, as I have the targets bound to my F keys...but people still ignore them when I do AoE pulls for some reason. You'd think people would have common sense when I mark Skull, X, and so forth but alas, they do not...
