I think I might just be the cheapest person in WoW... and probably outside of the game too. I needed Aethril for my Rogue quest, but strangely enough, wowhead never had great information on what exactly it is. The "Gathered from..." section never listed any nodes, but the comments mentioned that it's an herb and where it's found. Well, at first, I thought, "Let's go check the AH!" I headed on over to Ironforge, and, "10 gold each!? I need 20 of them! Pfft! I ain't spending 200 gold on that." ...keep in mind that I have somewhere around 800,000 gold.
I decided to get one of my herbalists ready, and I noticed that my Monk, which I level alone, has herbalism and skinning. So, I ended up spending a bunch of time on him last night, which was partly due to going to the wrong zone. (I missed the note about Aethril only being in one specific zone.) Of course, I then had to get every single treasure chest and rare NPC that I saw, and I even took the long way to the second quest area in that zone. ...then I had to make sure to unlock all of my class order stuff so I could start doing missions! About four hours later, and I finally had my 20 Aethril.
Although, I forgot how ridiculous Monks can be in combat. With Blizzard removing some of the Rogue's control kit (i.e. making Blind an Outlaw-only ability), I definitely felt like I could barely take more than 2-3 mobs at a time without blowing serious cooldowns. On my Monk, I was taking on 5-6 mobs and only using the 30-45 second cooldown abilities. It helps that the artifact ability is ridiculous in its damage and that it targets multiple enemies!
