I don't know what you guys heard about the Cat beta, but I have a friend who is in it. He started a goblin and despite them sounding like "New Jersey Italians" (his words), he said it was the funnest he'd had in WoW ever. Basically, it is WoW 2.0 and not just another expansion.

Is this going to make you forget about your "Blizzard lost a customer for life" stance?

Oh of course not. I've already removed my CC from my account. Blizzard was nice enough to give me a free month after my current one is up, but after that, I'm done.

The new votekick is atrocious. DPS are just going AFK and the timer to kick them is longer than the actual fucking dungeon.

/agree

And not just DPS, healers too sometimes. I normally don't complain about LFD since I only run it for badges and couldn't care less about the loot in there, but sometimes it's annoying when one person is AFK the moment he zones in. I try to votekick but I get a stupid message saying "can't votekick for another 30 minutes" I mean, WTF is up with that?

I honestly do not understand how this votekick system works. I thought blizz said it was going to make changes to it so that people who don't normally kick others will have the ability to more or less "instant" kick someone.

I find the new 30 min timer on vote kicking ridiculous. The only way you can actually kick somebody now, is if they go offline for like 5 minutes. Otherwise blizzards seems to want you to be stuck wiping for 30minutes and wasting your time when a few people wanna dick around.

They removed the cooldown for people that don't kick often. Before, once you kicked somebody, you'd have to wait like 10 minutes to kick somebody else, such that if their were two terribads in your group...you were fucked. So they made it for people that don't kick often don't get that cooldown, what they failed to mention is the reason they were doing it. It was because they were stealth increasing the minimum time to booting.

Luckily I'm usually either a tank or heals, such that I say fuck it and just leave the group, and do something else till the debuff wears off.

I cannot seem to get Less-Rabi for the life of me. I tried again last night, paying 50g per person if I get the achievement. First interrupt was supposed to be a mage, given that he had 6k GS I figured he would probably be competent enough to pop an interrupt, but alas he failed the very first transformation in a group packed with interrupters.

When I've done this with my guild, we use a tank who needs no heals for the fight (Me), drop the healer and bring in an extra DPSer. Pop cooldowns and just nuke the snot out of him. Having a Shammy in the group is a big help, since their interrupt is highly effective and they can use Heroism. Go in the back door (away from the summoning stone), and you only have 2 trash pulls. 3, if you want to be absolutely safe.

In ICC gear, it's absolutely doable to drop him fast enough that he never gets to cast Transformation a second time.

Having done it several times and failed to do it many more, it's that damn third transformation that sucks ass. First two are fairly well timed apart and have a consistent cast time. When the third pops you all but need to already have your finger hitting your interrupt button.

The new vote kick timer at work. I queued for a random heroic and when the group zoned in, the tank immediately went afk and stayed afk. We couldn't kick him for 30min. We couldn't start the dungeon. We could leave and get a 30min debuff. I'm not sure what Blizz is thinking lately, but between this and the new privacy mess they've started..just ugh.

The problem was the 6k gs mage was probably Chinese. They majority of the large Chinese guilds on Illidan (and they are LARGE) get carried through content and get gear. I've seen 6k gs mage in one of these guilds pulling 4k dps. I mean, a mage hits 2 buttons, kind of hard to mess that up.

When I've done it, we nuked the crap out of him and interrupted at the latest possible time for the first cast. I believe that bought us enough time to drop him before he got to his 2nd cast. But then again, we are all LK Heroic geared. I'd done it before, but it was perfectly timed interrupts.

It's possible; he seemed to speak good English though and he already had the achievement, so for some reason I assumed he knew what he was doing. I cussed him out and put him on ignore afterwards when I realized that he was the same guy from the night before that failed to interrupt. The others in the group all called him out as well, because we were supposed to jump off the ledge if the attempt failed but instead he stood there nuking the boss down like a jackass.

My group last night had him down in about 12 - 13 seconds, so had the first interrupt worked we probably would have gotten the achievement. Illidan is a weird server compared to what I'm used to.

this real ID thing is making me glad I stopped playing/posting on the forums.

it was kinda shocking how easily it was to find my address on google using only my first and last name -- not my current address, but my parents address popped up. so, what? have a disagreement with someone on the forums and they show up on your doorstop with a baseball bat? miss out on a job because the HR rep googled you and the first hundred results were WoW forum posts and you play alliance while he plays horde?

No comments on the new talent system? For shame!

When we first announced our design goals for class talent trees back at BlizzCon 2009, one of our major stated focuses was to remove some of the boring and "mandatory" passive talents. We mentioned that we wanted talent choices to feel more flavorful and fun, yet more meaningful at the same time. Recently, we had our fansites release information on work-in-progress talent tree previews for druids, priests, shaman, and rogues. From those previews and via alpha test feedback, a primary response we heard was that these trees didn’t incorporate the original design goals discussed at BlizzCon. This response echoes something we have been feeling internally for some time, namely that the talent tree system has not aged well since we first increased the level cap beyond level 60. In an upcoming beta build, we will unveil bold overhauls of all 30 talent trees.

Talent Tree Vision

One of the basic tenets of Blizzard game design is that of “concentrated coolness.” We’d rather have a simpler design with a lot of depth, than a complicated but shallow design. The goal for Cataclysm remains to remove a lot of the passive (or lame) talents, but we don’t think that’s possible with the current tree size. To resolve this, we're reducing each tree to 31-point talents. With this reduction in tree size we need to make sure they're being purchased along a similar leveling curve, and therefore will also be reducing the number of total talent points and the speed at which they're awarded during the leveling process.

As a result, we can keep the unique talents in each tree, particularly those which provide new spells, abilities or mechanics. We’ll still have room for extra flavorful talents and room for player customization, but we can trim a great deal of fat from each tree. The idea isn’t to give players fewer choices, but to make those choices feel more meaningful. Your rotations won’t change and you won’t lose any cool talents. What will change are all of the filler talents you had to pick up to get to the next fun talent, as well as most talents that required 5 of your hard-earned points.

We are also taking a hard look at many of the mandatory PvP talents, such as spell pushback or mechanic duration reductions. While there will always be PvP vs. PvE builds, we’d like for the difference to be less extreme, so that players don’t feel like they necessarily need to spend their second talent specialization on a PvP build.

The Rise of Specialization

We want to focus the talent trees towards your chosen style of gameplay right away. That first point you spend in a tree should be very meaningful. If you choose Enhancement, we want you to feel like an Enhancement shaman right away, not thirty talent points later. When talent trees are unlocked at level 10, you will be asked to choose your specialization (e.g. whether you want to be an Arms, Fury or Protection warrior) before spending that first point. Making this choice comes with certain benefits, including whatever passive bonuses you need to be effective in that role, and a signature ability that used to be buried deeper in the talent trees. These abilities and bonuses are only available by specializing in a specific tree. Each tree awards its own unique active ability and passives when chosen. The passive bonuses range from flat percentage increases, like a 20% increase to Fire damage for Fire mages or spell range increases for casters, to more interesting passives such as the passive rage regeneration of the former Anger Management talent for Arms warriors, Dual-Wield Specialization for Fury warriors and Combat rogues, or the ability to dual-wield itself for Enhancement shaman.

The initial talent tree selection unlocks active abilities that are core to the chosen role. Our goal is to choose abilities that let the specializations come into their own much earlier than was possible when a specialization-defining talent had to be buried deep enough that other talent trees couldn’t access them. For example, having Lava Lash and Dual-Wield right away lets an Enhancement shaman feel like an Enhancement shaman. Other role-defining examples of abilities players can now get for free at level 10 include Mortal Strike, Bloodthirst, Shield Slam, Mutilate, Shadow Step, Thunderstorm, Earth Shield, Water Elemental, and Penance.

Getting Down to the Grit

Talent trees will have around 20 unique talents instead of today's (roughly) 30 talents, and aesthetically will look a bit more like the original World of Warcraft talent trees. The 31-point talents will generally be the same as the 51-point talents we already had planned for Cataclysm. A lot of the boring or extremely specialized talents have been removed, but we don't want to remove anything that’s going to affect spell/ability rotations. We want to keep overall damage, healing, and survivability roughly the same while providing a lot of the passive bonuses for free based on your specialization choice.

While leveling, you will get 1 talent point about every 2 levels (41 points total at level 85). Our goal is to alternate between gaining a new class spell or ability and gaining a talent point with each level. As another significant change, you will not be able to put points into a different talent tree until you have dedicated 31 talent points to your primary specialization. While leveling, this will be possible at 70. Picking a talent specialization should feel important. To that end, we want to make sure new players understand the significance of reaching the bottom of their specialization tree before gaining the option of spending points in the other trees. We intend to make sure dual-specialization and re-talenting function exactly as they do today so players do not feel locked into their specialization choice.

A True Mastery

The original passive Mastery bonuses players were to receive according to how they spent points in each tree are being replaced by the automatic passive bonuses earned when a tree specialization is chosen. These passives are flat percentages and we no longer intend for them to scale with the number of talent points spent. The Mastery bonus that was unique to each tree will now be derived from the Mastery stat, found on high-level items, and Mastery will be a passive skill learned from class trainers around level 75. In most cases, the Mastery stats will be the same as the tree-unique bonuses we announced earlier this year. These stats can be improved by stacking Mastery Rating found on high-level items.

To Recap

When players reach level 10, they are presented with basic information on the three specializations within their class and are asked to choose one. Then they spend their talent point. The other trees darken and are unavailable until 31 points are spent in the chosen tree. The character is awarded an active ability, and one or more passive bonuses unique to the tree they've chosen. As they gain levels, they'll alternate between receiving a talent point and gaining new skills. They'll have a 31-point tree to work down, with each talent being more integral and exciting than they have been in the past. Once they spend their 31'st point in the final talent (at level 70), the other trees open up and become available to allocate points into from then on. As characters move into the level 78+ areas in Cataclysm, they'll begin seeing items with a new stat, Mastery. Once they learn the Mastery skill from their class trainer they'll receive bonuses from the stat based on the tree they've specialized in.

We understand that these are significant changes and we still have details to solidify. We feel, however, that these changes better fulfill our original class design goals for Cataclysm, and we're confident that they will make for a better gameplay experience. Your constructive feedback is welcomed and appreciated.

Are you serious? I'd say you're more likely to piss someone off at a bar and have them stab you than this crap. "Oh you killed me in STV, I am going to go to your house and beat you". Very likely... And a future employer not hiring you because of who faction you play on WoW? Doesn't sound like the kind of job I'd want to be staying at for long. Good riddance if you ask me.

The whole idea of some random jerk off calling me a cock smoker enough times to make me track him down and murder his children with a frying pan just baffles me. What are you saying online that has you scared someone might come after you?

Shit, I should be worried about all these unstable people on the internet. I mean, I have an ATI video card and we all know how those crazy nVidia guys are. I should remove my info so nobody tracks me down and kills me for being on the red team.

While I agree that the chances of extreme danger are still slim even with the change, the fact remains that unscrupulous individuals can now potentially do more to people with personal info should the RealID forum change go thru. I mean, at least one Blizzard employee (Drysac?) had google maps and an alleged cell number listed to him not long after he posted his first and last name.

Frankly, the bigger issue for me is the erosion of control people will have over their personal info. At least with RealID cross-realm and cross-game chat, people for better or worse could CHOOSE who to link their real info to.

http://forums.battle.net/thread.html?topicId=25626109041
post #17 has an excellent quoted post listing a number of very possible consequences should someone care to make use of the linked info should the RealID forum change occur

well first we have to wait till closer to launch given the high gumby factor with anything they've done so far. second, locks seem to be getting the raw deal here. third, the games going to hell anyway with activision/bnet.

Any class that has had talents in seperate trees that are very beneficial to each other are gonna be hurt by this, but it depends on how the trees are really balanced.

Bah, one of the reasons I keep coming back to wow is the familiarity. Sometimes I just don't feel like learning a new game. But with all these changes in the expansion, it's gonna be like a new game itself.

Just read through the changes and at first blush, I'm fine with it. To me, it basically sounds like in the end, we'll get the same effect of what we have now. I'm not quite sure how lowering the amount of talent points you can spend while lowering the talents you can spend them on will help introduce choice, but we'll see how it goes. I like that Blizzard wants to try and give players more choice, but no matter what they do, they'll never get rid of min/maxing.

After many attempts the past couple of nights, my guild finally downed 10-man Sindragosa last night. Damn that last phase is hard as hell to get everyone coordinated, I can't imagine trying it on 25-man. We put in 13 attempts Tuesday night and got her down on the 10th attempt last night. For 9 out of 10 of us, it was our first downing of Sindy.

We just kept plugging away at her, getting to the last phase with everybody alive every single time, but everything finally just clicked and we got her down. The tank switching was the best it had been yet, people were dropping stacks appropriately and ice blocks were being burned down quickly enough. That was one hell of a feeling last night when she finally died. I don't care if we do have a huge buff that helped us, it was still a tremendous achievement for our guild.

What I like the most about the new talent thing is that you can finally get real abilities at level 10 by specifying what you will be.

Yeah... people suck at coordinating Sindragosa phase 3. I was in a group that had some premo leftover people leading it and they said for everyone to get behind the first block. I just sat there thinking, "who's going to heal your tank now that everyone is out of LoS?" Unsurprisingly, the tanks always died in phase 3 during that run.

your healers can get behind the block and still heal.. debuff refreshes every 6 seconds, so if your debuff timber is between 3-8 seconds you can still be out and healing. also, you can just LoS the boss but still be in LoS of the tank if the ice block is placed correctly

This RealID thing is friggin stupid. I can't for the life of me imagine why they would introduce something like this.
http://www.wow.com/2010/07/06/security-flaw-allows-addons-to-expose-full-real-life-names-witho/

Its really not that bad...if you are worried about it, then don't post.

This change comes from all the trolls on the forums. WoW has honestly become World of Trollcraft. The forums are plagued with people who spent hours a day flaming other people. Even trade chat is now full of people trolling.
