Playing this again after quitting right before WOTLK. Leveling is incredibly easy now with mounts at 20. Seems like they have made experience changes also.

I really wish I had my old account. I had a red Quraji battle tank and a bunch of other cool stuff that I'll never get again...but I thought I'd never play again.

I wish I could get my old account back too.

You could just "steal" it back. Since selling accounts is not really allowed, you can call up Blizzard, fax your information in and they'll reset it back to you. Lots of people did this back in the day when they sold accounts .

Those pet changes nakes BM seem rather interesting.

Also, The latest beta build was HUGE, you can expect a lot of interesting things in the next days/weeks, we're definitely getting closer to a release date.

So, who's still betting on '11.

The pet changes seem nice and make hunters a bit more interesting I think. Hunters have had some annoyances with their ranges (mostly on marrowgar in ICC TBH), but this lets them be very versatile with their stable of pets (especially with how big they're becoming).

The PTR just bums me out on my Prot Pally... I lose so much bonus armor for absolutely no gain in other stats. I literally go from 70.90% physical damage reduction on live to 65.66% on the PTR... that's pretty darn big. I gain more stamina, but I wonder if that's from the removal of defense rating (since the +armor pieces don't have defense anyway... well, most of them). But oddly enough, even trinkets with +armor now don't have it.

Also disappointed to see that I lost 6 expertise in talents... I gotta make that up now .

Patch 4.0.1 now on Test Realms
Patch 4.0.1 is now available on test realms (=not beta, the regular test realms). People who aren't in the Cataclysm beta yet can now test most of the Cataclysm features, aside from anything requiring leveling.

•US PTR Website
•EU PTR Website

This is basically the exact same build as Cataclysm Beta, just without all the Cataclysm-only stuff. Old world changes, new quests, etc ... are NOT AVAILABLE, but will be available on live realms for people without the expansion after it's deployed.

Basically, on the test realms:

•Classes changes are up, new talent builds, new glyphs (not fully implemented yet), etc ...
•Revamped old zones are NOT available
•New graphics (textures, water effects) are NOT available
•Archaeology is NOT available
•Guild leveling is NOT available
•Flying in Azeroth is NOT available
•New content is NOT available

I think that's enough to answer 95% of the questions about this.

i haven't looked that much into it as i don't have a druid that can fly, but did read a bit about druids being bugged on the ptr allowing the in some instances to fly now in the old world.

So, when is the release of Cataclysm?
Now that Patch 4.0.1 is on PTR, I get a lot of mails asking for a release date and I guess I can answer that without too much risk now.

Keep in mind that Blizzard didn't announce it because the release can still be postponed, but as far as I know the target release date for Cataclysm is the first week of November (that would be November 2, if you like numbers). The first part of the Cataclysm prologue started exactly 8 weeks before that and the next part of the pre-Cataclysm event will probably happen in 2 or 4 weeks depending on their schedule.

You got your answer, and hopefully people won't yell at me if something goes wrong.

I can't imagine the experience gained from gathering nodes to be anything significant. I don't even know why they are bothering with it, unless it's a plan to saturate the market with mats in the beginning of the expansion. If gathering gives XP, I'm sure more people will do it.

As far as the Cata release date, I read this information in the comments section on mmo-champion:

WotLK 3.0 PTR: September 11, 2008
WotLK Release Date Announced: September 15, 2008
WotLK 3.0 Live: October 14, 2008
WotLK Retail Launch: November 13, 2008

I wouldn't be surprised to get an official release date this week.

Although, I wonder if Blizzcon being so close to that release date might push it back? I guess the Blizzard grunts could keep working though

If they're targetings a release date in November.... the final version would have to go Golden Master in October to get enough copies to be pressed & shipped for the release.

A base version would have to... yes. But fortunately, you can just patch the MMO post-release .

Wow I tried to tank ICC in the PTR and it was horrible. Could not get through the first trash with how much they nerfed AoE tanking. Druids had swipe on a CD so I was mostly single targeting tanking.

I'm almost afraid to try it out. As much as Pally tanking isn't terribly hard in live, I don't think it will be too bad come 4.0 either... problem is how all of my gear has changed and I'm worried that I'll simply be a hell of a lot squishier. There was even a blue post today where they were musing about removing the ICC buff.

Hmm I'm toying with my Paladin just smacking around the target dummy and the rotation seems rather boring. There's just so little to do and I don't feel GCD constrained like I used to.

I also have a bit of HP at the moment... 50966 unbuffed compared to my ~45.5k on live. I'd probably replace my Unidentifiable Organ with a stam trinket since the +armor is completely gone. I also need to gem my libram.

EDIT:

Some things I've noticed... I can still use Consecrate and Holy Wrath on CD with all the mana return I get. Shield of Righteousness does a ton of damage, but is technically lower on the priority. I'd say the priority looks something like...

Shield of the Righteous + HPx3 + CS almost off CD
Avenger's Shield
CS + HPx1-2
Judgement
Consecration
Holy Wrath
CS+HPx3 (You should never have to use this)

Pretty much the thoughts I have in my head are...

  • Avenger's Shield hits really hard... as hard as Shield of the Righteous with 3 Holy Power. I like to keep it on some to some degree, but cringe a bit when I try to put Crusader Strike before it, since Crusader Strike has a chance to reset the CD via the Grand Crusader talent. I might move AS near the top of the priority regardless.
  • Crusader Strike definitely does not hit hard, but you want to stack the Holy Power quick enough. I'm almost tempted to see if HotR actually hits harder since they're both on the same CD.
  • Regardless of the idea that they want to get rid of AoE moves used for Pally Tanking, I still have so much mana from Judgements of the Wise that I can easily use them. Do note that I currently have the Consecration talent that reduces the mana cost by 80%. Without this, I do not believe that it would be possible for us to use much at all given its 55% (!!) base cost. To my knowledge, nothing is affecting the Holy Wrath mana cost, so that should be true regardless of spec.
  • I try and use the filler spells (Consecrate and Holy Wrath) when Judgement and Crusader Strike still have significant enough time on CD. Given the long cooldowns on these two spells (15 seconds or higher), they don't cause problems often and are usually on CD most of the duration of a fight.
  • Given the nature of Holy Power, it isn't necessary to use Shield of the Righteous immediately once you get 3 stacks. The only real requirement is using your 3 stacks of Holy Power before CS comes off CD. This is why I have the "CS almost off CD" in the line. This is also big because SotR does not have a cooldown.
I was mostly just fighting elites in Icecrown.

EDIT 2:

I've done some testing and HotR > CS for single target tanking. The only time when CS is better is when it crits as HotR appears to be unable to crit (the holy shockwave portion, I assume... not sure about the weapon strike part). But CS for me... it hits for around 750 (~1400 crit). HotR hits for around 1150 to 1300. This might change with raid buffs though, but I don't think it will.

Hmm so I made 873g on the PTR from that conversion and I have 410 Justice Points, 68 Champion's Seals, 36828 Honor Points, 1257 Stone Keeper's Shards, 20 Wintergrasp Marks of Honor still.

My Paladin on live has...
EoC: 39
EoF: 153
EoH: 119
EoT: 297
EoV: 0

BoJ: 3
CS: 71

Honor: 36828
Stone Keeper's Shard: 1257
Wintergrasp Mark of Honor: 20

What's funny though? Prices are waaaay out of proportion. The Reins of the Wooly Mammoth that cost 200 Emblems of Heroism? It costs 2175 Justice Points! Given that I used to have 350 combined EoF/EoT, I could have easily traded down to buy it (ignoring my other lesser emblems) and still had emblems left over. Hierloom chestpieces cost 435 Justice Points... !

EDIT:

I also cannot afford a single piece of T10 gear and on live I can buy two pieces with my EoF .

Cataclysm Currency Changes Explained
In a nutshell:
•Emblems of Triumph and Emblems of Frost will be converted into Justice Points.
•All PvE emblems and badges below Frost and Triumph will be converted into gold. This even includes legacy badges, like Badges of Justice.
•Arena Points, Honor Points, any leftover Battleground Marks of Honor, Stone Keeper's Shards, Venture Coins, and Spirit Shards will be converted into the new Honor Points.
•Rated Arenas and Rated Battlegrounds won't be available again until Season 9 (shortly after the release of Cataclysm), when they can be entered to win the higher-tier PvP Conquest Points.

As we discussed in our previous announcement (http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/th...Id=24401796793), we're refining the currency systems used for purchasing PvE and PvP items in World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, and the transition to this new system will take place in two stages. Today, we're going into more detail on how these changes will be rolled out, so if you haven't yet, make sure to check out the prior article to get up to speed on the currency names.

One change of note since that original announcement is that we've changed the name of the low-tier PvE currency from Hero Points to Justice Points. The original announcement post has been updated to reflect this.

Out With the Old

In the upcoming 4.0 patch we'll begin the first stage of the conversion to the new currencies. Emblems of Triumph and Emblems of Frost will be converted into Justice Points. For this initial conversion there will be a soft cap of points you can have, with a hard cap enforced later as detailed below. All PvE emblems and badges below Frost and Triumph will be converted into gold. This even includes legacy badges, like Badges of Justice. If any of these older currencies are converted into gold, the player will receive it through an in-game letter.

At this time any bosses a player defeats that are level-appropriate to them (and previously awarded badges or emblems upon defeat) will award them with the new Justice Points. Similarly, any items that previously cost emblems or badges of any type will now cost Justice Points instead.

On the PvP side, Season 8 will end with the release of patch 4.0, and all Arena Points, Honor Points, any leftover Battleground Marks of Honor, Stone Keeper's Shards, Venture Coins, and Spirit Shards will be converted into the new Honor Points. The new Honor Point pool will also have a soft cap for these conversions, but a hard cap will be enforced later. At the time of conversion, items that previously cost Honor or Arena Points will be sold in exchange for the new Honor Points. Rated Arenas and Rated Battlegrounds won't be available again until Season 9 (shortly after the release of Cataclysm), when they can be entered to win the higher-tier PvP Conquest Points.

In addition, purchasing any item with these secondary currencies (Honor Points and Justice Points) will now require that the purchaser meet the item's minimum level requirement.

It's important to note that these conversions are not 1:1, but are indicative of the level and relative worth of each before the conversion to the new point systems. For example, Stone Keeper's Shards will convert into more Honor Points than Spirit Shards.

Tip of the Cap

While we previously announced that there's a limit to the amount of these new currencies you can stockpile, we're providing a grace period in the form of a soft cap. This soft cap will allow the initial conversion to push the amount owned over the cap, but will not allow any further points to be earned (or returned through item refunds) until enough points are spent to put you below the hard cap.

For instance, a player has 3000 Emblems of Triumph, and 1200 Emblems of Frost; at the time of conversion they'll be given 4200 Justice Points. The hard cap for Justice Points is 4000, so that player won't be able to earn any more Justice Points until he or she spends enough points to reduce the total to under 4000. This also applies to the new PvP Honor Points, which also have a cap of 4000.

Shortly before Cataclysm is released, another patch will enforce the hard cap, marking the second stage of the currency conversion. Any Justice or Honor Points above the hard cap will be converted to gold, and just like in the first stage of the conversion, the player will receive an in-game letter explaining that some of their currencies were converted into gold as well as delivering the gold itself.

couple of final funny notes about my hack; seems i have 6 primal saronite things in my back

also thought my shard bag was trashed as i couldn't find it. sent a note to blizz that i didn't think they restored my abyssal bag, then about 20 minutes later i found my ebon bag in the bank and sent them a note saying so and to disregard my first, a day later i received an abyssal bag in the mail.

their recover service seems to be pretty good, probably from all the practice. now i just have to figure out what to do with all those items i have doubled in return as i was near space limits before, and this put me way over.

This also applies to the new PvP Honor Points, which also have a cap of 4000.

4000 honor points?? I'm sitting on 50,000 right now...i wonder if that 50k is going to be chopped to a fraction to meet the apparently lower cost of honor point gear??

Also - seems as though justice point equipment is going to be much more expensive.
