You're comparing a whole network of servers to a single machine? I work in software and let me tell you, shit may seem perfect in your little test world, but usually stuff goes wrong when it comes to integration .

I work in software as well, and every code push we do may come with small problems, but a show stopping production issues happen VERY rarely. Not to mention, we can't even develop against the correct server we have in the field because our PM won't buy us RAD licenses. I understand problems, because you can't 100% completely test everything, but having the server unstable and crash EVERY patch day is unacceptable.

What I'm mostly trying to get at is the type of software they tend to deal with. I don't have to deal with such a highly networked piece of fun and not to mention, there are so many aspects of it to break. If this patch didn't include Real ID, I highly doubt they'd have many issues.

Although, it is always odd to see how the most random thing breaks in something you don't ever suspect.

I really like the RealID so far, I just wish Blizzard would let you change how people's names appear to you. I referred a lady friend a few months ago, so she signed up and tried it out. She didn't continue playing, but her husband created a character on her account and he's still playing. Now, with the RealID thing, he shows up as her name. I wish I could change his name on my end so I don't have to send whispers to his wife's name.

Let's face it, Blizz can afford 4+ hours down time because you've already paid them. If our production lines went down for 4 hours today due to someone in IT rolling out a patch... yeah they would be working elsewhere.

But in the end companies must be judged versus other similar companies. And as far as I can tell Blizzard does above average in this regard.

...and last night's interruptions still are nothing compared to the outages in the original release.

Moreover - There are *very* few networks in the world as extensive as the one Blizzard/AT&T support for this game. While I fully agree that they could be doing a better job of QA~ing their patches, in general they do do a pretty good job of it. And I disagree with the hyperbole about them crashing the servers 'every time', because that simply isn't true.

In other news:

Performing the /eat emote while dancing as a male Bloodelf can cause some very unnatural character movement.

..given the gender~ambiguity of male blood elves, this is apparently intentional.

Unfortunately, efforts to alter this behavior have been met with strong protest from various "Alternative Lifestyle" Rights Groups; who feel that Elves of Indeterminate Gender and/or Orientation should be free to... 'express themselves' in public without judgment, social pressure, or developer intervention.

World of Warcraft's ESRB rating will be changed to "Mature" as a result.

I think the Gods of WoW have it in for me. Just torturing me. MidSummer Fire Festival is the LAST meta I need for "What A Long, Strange Trip It's Been". No worries. Two weeks to get it done. Looks like easy mode. Nah. Sunday night my internet died. Called the cable company and they can't get a tech out till Tuesday late afternoon. Sigh. Turned out to be my cable modem bit the dust. Didn't realize the patch went live until I tried to log on last night. Tried until 845pm CST before I could get into the game. Now tonight I have a few hours free. Wonder what will go wrong this time.

Every patch day I can recall, the server I played on (Illidan) has been unstable or unplayable for hours afterward. Is it 100% of patch days? No, but it is damn near close.

Because servers are being overloaded. Everyone who plays wow are logging on around the same time. Stop blaming blizzard. Until quantum computing comes out this will always be an issue.

Mid summer was my last meta ach as well and I got it done the first day. Woot, purple/violet drake 310%!!

Anyway, the last ach of the mid summer meta was the juggling one and oh boy, what a clusterfuck of fail from blizz.

They changed the timer from 20sec -> 15 sec, which makes it DAMN near impossible to do. There are tips/strategies for it, but it all boils down to 15 seconds being not enough time for some people. It's pretty unfair if you ask me. I can really see some people not being able to get this ach due to various reasons (bad latency, bad hands/fingers, etc). Would suck if people couldn't get their long strange trip ach due to this.

Anyone have a solution to the new chat frame? There's an updated version of Prat available at wowinterface, but it won't let me remove the tabs or scroll buttons, or move the edit box.

I found this pretty annoying as well.

Same here. I also can't seem to make them as small as they used to be (6-8 lines or so) or get them anywhere near the bottom of my screen. They stop about... 75 pixels from the bottom.

The arrows annoy the heck out of me. I know a few people were having trouble moving their chat box, but mine moved around find.

To move chat boxes to the edge of the screen:

Code:
/run for i=1,7 do _G["ChatFrame"..i]:SetClampedToScreen(0) end

Or get an addon like Prat, which seems to do it automatically. Nothing I've found so far can get rid of the extra crap they have added to the boxes.

Ugh, not liking hearing about interface problems. Server was down so long yesterday I never did manage to log in.

Speaking of the drake, I now that of my 2 80s that don't have it now one has completed brewfest and the other still needs the brew, so for the one that has done brew already is this the last one to finish up?

It's mainly just the chat box. Most people don't know how to properly lock and unlock it, and move it around. I downloaded the newest Prat before even logging into 3.3.5 for the first time, and the only problem I'm having is that the chat window keeps resetting a few pixels up from the bottom of the screen. I have to move it down, but other than that, everything is working beautifully.

Mine will move anywhere on the screen, except for the very bottom.

Thanks; I'll check out Prat. I had another addon that modified the chat box in a way that I liked, but it hasn't been updated in like 9 months.

Had Windows 7 for over a year now (RC and final release). Never had a piece of software crashed (even the infamous GTA 4) or give me a BSOD.

WoW 3.3.5 is the first to accomplish both in one night. Stopped playing until this shit is fixed and went to my other games.

Yeah, I've had 3.3.5 crash on me 3 times now. First time I've ever seen WoW crash. On W7-64 myself.

I honestly crash quite often but that's been since I upgrade my machine. Almost every BIOS that ASUS has put out for my board has said...

"Improve system stability"

I guess even a slight improvement is an improvement .

Here's a few examples of how varied mine can be...

ERROR #132 (0x85100084) Fatal Exception
Program: D:\World of Warcraft\WoW.exe
Exception: 0xC0000005 (ACCESS_VIOLATION) at 0023:00833636

The instruction at "0x00833636" referenced memory at "0x0000003C".
The memory could not be "read".

ERROR #134 (0x85100086) Fatal Condition
Program: D:\World of Warcraft\WoW.exe

Failed to read file World\Maps\Northrend\Northrend_32_19.adt.

Debug Details:

[2] err=0 text=SFileReadFile - World\Maps\Northrend\Northrend_32_19.adt - Data\patch-2.MPQ
[1] err=0 text=ReadSectors/DecompressData failed
[0] err=0 text=ReadSectors/DecompressData failed

Actually, I guess it's not too varied... it's either one of those each time . The thing is, I run WoW off an Intel SSD, and I doubt that thing is failing and causing read errors. Although, I did hear something about how you should never have a non-system drive on SATA0 or SATA1 (or SATA1/SATA2 depending on how your board names them)... not sure about the validity of that though (as my WoW drive is on SATA1).

So I've been with my new 10-man guild for almost a month now and we're making really good progress IMO. Last week we took down 7/12, up to Putricide. We extended to this week and have managed to get down the princes, blood queen, and Valithria without too many problems. We even put in 3 attempts on Sindragosa last night and had mild success on each wipe, getting her down to 29% and 28% on the last two tries, and this was 90% of the raid's first time fighting her.

Yay for progression! Yay for an overpowered buff!

i don't believe that for a sec, ive had a HDD on sata1/2 that was a non system drive for years, ever since SATA came out actually and never had an issue, right now wow is on 1/2 IDK the exact number non system drive. runs better then when its on the system drive or the HDDs plugged into 3,4,5,6
