Every patch day I can recall, the server I played on (Illidan) has been unstable or unplayable for hours afterward. Is it 100% of patch days? No, but it is damn near close.

There's your problem. I played on Illidan from vanilla to early WoTLK release. Transferred off after I got sick and tired of +800 queues and the unbearable lag.

Went to KJ and everything was much better. In fact, our server only experienced minor loot lag issues on 3.3.5 release. It was fine the next day. I also play on Tich and Blackrock after 3.3.5 was released. Pretty sure it was no where as bad as Illidan during any times when a new patch was released.

I honestly crash quite often but that's been since I upgrade my machine. Almost every BIOS that ASUS has put out for my board has said...

"Improve system stability"

I guess even a slight improvement is an improvement .

Here's a few examples of how varied mine can be...

Actually, I guess it's not too varied... it's either one of those each time . The thing is, I run WoW off an Intel SSD, and I doubt that thing is failing and causing read errors. Although, I did hear something about how you should never have a non-system drive on SATA0 or SATA1 (or SATA1/SATA2 depending on how your board names them)... not sure about the validity of that though (as my WoW drive is on SATA1).

Have you tested your RAM for errors or done any stress testing outside of the game? WOW was the only game that managed to crash my system randomly from time to time. It even passed running Prime95 for days on end using the most stressful options in the program. I would check event viewer after each WOW crash and I would often get varied errors, but the most common was saying there were problems with atikmdag. See http://www.atikmdag.com/ for more information. After trying those steps and no avail, I went to a lower level of troubleshooting and opened my case. My RAM seemed a little hot, but so did my northbridge. Hard to believe that my system isn't cool enough with 4x120mm Delta fans and 3x230mm Cooler Master fans. Needless to say, I bought an Antec Spot Cooling fan and aimed it at my northbridge and RAM area and WOW has never crashed on me in the 3 months since I've found my fix. (knocks on wood)

My system is overclocked, but WOW would crash even if I ran it at stock. I'm guessing that there was just too much data flow between my pair of ATi cards, the OCed RAM, OCed CPU, and the northrbidge and the system would just heat up from all the data swapping. The good thing was it never happened while I was in an instance, but only in major cities or flying above populated areas. I'm assuming it was CPU intensive to load the character information for everyone I went by, causing the heat which lead to the crash.

My crash experiences varied from WOW giving soft crashes (simply closes to the Windows desktop and asks me to describe what I was doing) to video/frame locks from which my monitor would go into standby, but the sound would sometimes (not always) keep playing in the background. Sometimes it would just do a hard restart, too.

Regardless, I hope you find the fix to your solution and take my words into consideration for the possibility of it being your case, too.

My WoW likes to crash on me from time to time. Usually just freezes and I have to exit. Starts right back up though. Oh, and every time I kill LK I think I've frozen because of that stupid RP video garbage.

Oh I know, I enjoy playing on a server with more than 15 people on at once...

It's quite possible that there could be something like that, or even needing to adjust memory timings or the voltage to fit better with the specs. I asked ASUS why their compatible memory list didn't even match the motherboard (they kept listing triple packs of DIMMs, which is fine.. if you use triple-channel DDR3, which the P55 does not ). Never really got a good response on that one :\.

You know, I kind of miss the days where I built PCs that weren't very powerful (money issues, mostly). The thing is... they never had nearly as many problems even though I bought cheaper components.

eh lots of large servers with no queue, Illidan is prob the worst one right now Malganis is a close 2nd i think

reminds me of playing on Bloodhoof back at 60, if you loged in at 6:30 you got right in at 6:45 there was a small que (like 5 min) by 7 you were 1000 or so people deep was fun cancleing Naxx raids because 20 people were stuck waiting for the queue

I can't recall the last time I've seen a queue and I raid at peak times. I usually do log in around 6:00 PM server however. I've come to believe Blizzard gives queues to the noobs before the pros; at least, that is what I'd like to believe.

This is true...however, it is like owning a sports car versus a standard sedan. A normal car will work (generally) without the initial maintenance schedules and careful fine-tuning. Also, high performance computers suck a lot of power compared to a 'standard' PC. My machine takes about 235W idle and when I play WOW or Crysis, it will claim 525-550W from the power socket. Due to me having more time available in the summer, we've noticed a substantial increase in our monthly electric bill from playing WOW more frequently. :whiste:

Oh noes, blizz is messing with gear score!!!!

I hope they take that shit out. It is stupid that people "live" by it now. I can't get into a ToGC10 group on my paladin because my 5.7k gs is "too low"... My hunter was in FULL ToGC25 gear and had around 5500gs. I also love the "5k gs only" nax weekly runs... My DK, still in full Nax25 gear is pushing 4400 gs. Before the big boom in this addon, things were much simpler.

On a lighter note, we had our first ICC25 run this week with the 25% buff and no AVR. After wiping on LDW due to derps eating ghosts (like 10+ fails per attempt), we 2 shot PP and ended up 9/12 in 4 hours. Not bad, not bad.

Question for you guys. Since the patch WoW has glitched a couple times. I haven't updated any addons yet. I usually give i a bit for everything to get updated. My problem showed up once Wednesday night and again last night. The first time, I exited out of the game and got back in and everything was fine. Last night, I just did "/reload" and everything was fine. What's happening when the glitch occurs is items in my inventory aren't responding to right and left click as they should. For instance with piece of gear. Right clicking should auto equip the item. Left click AND release should allow me to "pick up" the item with and move it to another slot, left click again to release it. When the glicth occurs, I can do neither, but if I hold down the right click it will let me drag the item to another slot. When I went to do this with a tabard, a horizontal bar appeared to the right of the tabard slot with the icons of a bag, the tabard I was wearing, and the one I wanted to equip. I have never seen this before and as far as I'm aware none of my addons have this ability. Is there some new functionality that Bliz put in the character equipment screen that maybe my addons is interfering with?

Another problem was weird last night fighting Lord Ahune. Fighting his spawning mobs was fine, but switching to Ahune's "core" during phase 2, all of my buttons on my bars would be un-selectable, like I was too far away. Didn't matter how close I got to him. It only lasted for a few seconds, but very irritating, wasting valuable time.

I'll definitely look for mod updates this evening.

p.s. I got my stinking Violet Proto-Drake last night. I've been working on this shtuff for 2 years.

QFT - The funny part is I've seen people insisting on requirements like you list above for runs when they themselves aren't anywhere near... Stuff like 4K~ish geared individuals insisting on ICC+ geared peeps for a ToC run. Basically it's a ploy to stack the raid with OP players who don't need any drops: Nets an easy run and all the loot goes to the RL.

Before the blizz response to things such as gearscore was let the idiots play as they like.
Now the response is if a bunch of you want to play like idiots that cause additional server load then we're going to implement server code to reduce that load...which coincidentaly can cause conflicts with things that rely on such data heavy channels like gearscore.

with the equip issue, are you using WoW's equipment manager?

Since that has been implemented I haven't been able to right click gear on either, so i created two profiles PvE and PvP through the equipment manager. To seitch gear I open my charcter screen, click on the equipmnt manager on the top right and arrows appear for every slot on my char, left click the arrow and all wearable pieces of armor appear.

It's annoying but just how I do it, I'm easy going

Hmmm... I've been using Outfitter, and haven't had a problem at all. Might be an option if you guys continue having issues with that.

Very interesting. I have not used the equipment manager, but what you describe is exactly what I'm seeing. Maybe it's on by default as of the patch? I'll check when I get home. If it's not enabled, this is going to get really irritating, really fast. I have never had this happen before. It's odd that it goes away with just reloading the screen.

Bleh massive fail on yesterday's Ulduar PUG raid to get achievement. I don't know why idiots join if they don't intend on staying the whole raid. It's an achievement run. It's like they think since it's an older zone they can just turn their brains off. Raid lasted an hour, we wiped 3 times on Iron Council because people weren't dispelling enough and then 3-4 people just left which caused a cascading raid call. Last Ulduar raid 2 weeks before lasted 6 hours and we didn't get every achievement, but I stayed until the end and did as best as I could given it was the first time I was that deep into the zone.

People don't seem to realize that gear does not equate to skill. They think they can just power through some Ulduar HMs like they are nothing, and some of the fights you can. The ones that take you to know what you're doing, however, is a whole 'nother beast.
