I went out and got a ATA-100 Controller card, CMD PCI-0649. I'm running a old BX motherboard (Asus P2b-f) that only has support for ATA 33. So I figured that I'd give it a bit of a boost, let me say that the card has been nothing but a hassle. My Sound Blaster Audigy pops and crackles more often than not now, The computer will seems to have a massive slow down from time to time now. the drives are alot faster and have a better responce time, but Im running into all sorts of problems. I'm hosntly thinking of taking the card back and telling them its a piece of junk..
I've tryed Playing around with my PCI Latency setting Which I moved up to 64 from 32. I'm sceptical to move it up any more because I like multitasking..
I've tryed upgrading my sound cards driver and the ata100 cards driver. I've even tryed a bios flash up to a Beta bios.. to no avail. the computer was running fine with none of the above mentioned problems before I installed the ATA-100 card

Any Help or insight anyone can offer would be appreciated!

The problem more than likely is not the ATA card, but
rather the Sound Blaster Audigy card.

It likes to consume IRQs and DMAs like it is the only thing in
the machine. Just could be that they are sharing the
same addresses and that is not good for disk I/O.

Also, if you have ACPI installed on your system, you might want
to disable it as it has been known to cause problems with Audigy
cards.

My ATA Card has been screwing up my sound too. Except I'm using an Extigy. So I'm doubting the IRQ is the problem.

Have you tried changing slots for BOTH the Live! and your ATA card? My POS Promise card works nicely with my Live! only when they're in a specific pair of slots.
