Athlon 1.2GHz 200FSB vs. 1.2GHz 266FSB?

I am buying a new motherboard, CPU, and RAM for my PC. I am looking at an Athlon 1.2GHz processor. I don't know whether to get the 200FSB chip, or pay a little more for the chip and get a 266FSB.

If I get the 200FSB, I am looking at an Asus A7V-E motherboard. What motherboard would I need with a 266FSB chip? Would the performance between the 2 chips be a lot?

Thanks,

Chris

Go with the 266 no much of a price difference.

There is quite a difference between the 100 vs 133 mhz bus speed 4 or 5% ?

You need a board w/ the KT133A chipset or anything else that supports 266.

Th eCPU is almost the same price, about $10 difference. To go to a motherboard with a 266FSB is about $75 CAD difference.

Is the performace difference really worth $85?

What motherboards are you considering? That certainly is a big price difference. You might consider the ECS K7S5A, which is very inexpensive (US$65) and has excellent performance, and it takes all current Durons, Athlons and the new Palomino-family Athlons and Durons as well. However, some people are having problems, so read some of the threads in Motherboards area and make the call for yourself. Personally, mine is working well.

You can find the K7S5A at Newegg, Axiontech, and Computergate among other places. There may be a new revision coming out which doesn't have built-in LAN, but mine came with LAN as well as onboard sound, which helps compensate for it having only five PCI slots. edit: it might be worth mentioning that it takes both PC133 and DDR, although not both at the same time.

go w/ the 266...

if you owned the same clocked CPU w/ the 200 FSB you'll notice that the 266 is faster...
i don't think the price difference is really that big between a 200 FSB and a 266 FSB..

just remember to get PC-133 memory sticks
